William Beese of Richmond was elected vice-president, Bill Davidson •f/Harvard was named treasurer, and Dorothy Schultz was re-elected secretary. Nine directors were re-elected at the McHenry County Fair association annual meeting in Woodstock. One director, Jack Hayes, was honored on his retirement from the board following nearly two decades of service, including 10 years as treasurer. A harness racing enthusiast, Hayes first became involved in the fair through that hobby. His service gradually expanded to become a major activity for both Jack and his wife, Betty, during the spring and summer months. Margaret Szlachta, Woodstock, is the new director, chosen at-large. Reelected as at-large directors were Bruce Olbrich, Marengo, and Sue Newell, Woodstock. The board is comprised of '17 members, chosen from the 17 townships, and six at- large directors. Re-elected to the board are the following directors: George Ainger, Alden; Elwood Davis, Dorr; Bill Davidson, Dunham; Dorothy Schultz, Algonquin; Jim Hallisy, Hebron; Lester Finder, Margeno; and William Beese, Richmond. The board voted to hold its monthly meetings on the fairgrounds in Building D at 8:15 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. The 1983 McHenry County Fair will be Aug. 3-7 at Woodstock. Coming up next for the fair leaders is attendance and participation in the Association of Illinois County Fairs annual meeting in mid-January. Two talent contest winners and the reigning Miss McHenry County (Rachel Shelton) will vie in respective contests during that state-wide meeting. If any further information is needed, call Jim Jansen at 385-7475. beaten to death and 15-year-old Julie Kim was seriously injured in the attack. , The teenage victim is recovering in St. Anthony hospital, Rockford, and was able Wednesday to give police artists a description of the assailant. The suspect is described as between 23 and 27 years old, thinly built with blonde curly hair and a moustache. No motive for the attack has been established by police. "We don't have a motive yet,"said Police Chief William Patrick. He said no weapon has been recovered and investigations determined that nothing was stolen from the residence. Police also have determined there was no sexual attack and there was no forced entry to the home, where the two women were the lone occupants. Kim reportedly managed to call police before succumbing to un consciousness about 7 p.m. Friday., Authorities believe a blunt weapon was used in the attack, when both women were beaten around the head. Mrs. Barter was legally blind and an invalid. Kim, a student at Wood stock high school, had resided with the Barters for several years. "It is important for the community to know that any information provided to us regarding the suspect will be kept in the strictest confidence," the police chief said. He said if any person has in formation they can remain anonymous if they prefer. He urged persons who recognize the sketch of the suspect or have any other in formation to call Woodstock Police department investigations at 338-2131. SMOKE DETECTORS , Every home should have a smoke detector located outside the bedrooms. The National Safety Council says the warning device can give you those extra seconds to escape a home fire.
