Sergeant Cribb is called in to Jan-Michael Vincent -- who has one of the key rotes in ABC's seven-part "novel for television," "The Winds of War" -- has been tagged throughout his career as being a loner and a difficult actor to work with. Surprisingly, Vincent admitted that, indeed, he isn't the easiest person to get along with. "I guess I am a little stand-offish, but I was always suspicious of get­ ting too comfortable with success. "I always thought that someone was going to pull the rug out from under me," says Vincent, who has been featured in such films as "White Line Fever," "Buster and Billie" and "Hard Country." "That's a possible rea­ son why people were leery about me. But I've learned not to be too defensive." He's hoping that his per­ formance in "The Winds of War" may help him over­ come his reputation. He plays Byron Henj-y, an American civilian work­ ing in Italy in 1939, who falls in love with Natalie investigate a death at a school reu­ nion. (60 min.)
