A built-in bathtub and drainage system more than 3,000 years old lies in the ruins of King Nestor's palace near Pylos, Greece. The Romans were famous for their public baths. Remains of them can be seen today, such as the famous spa of Bath in southwest England. Bathing resorts became fashionable again in the 1600s. These baths were thought to cure many bodily ailments. NOW: It wasn't unitl 1900 that the process of bringing water indoors to the bath became popular with the in vention of the first faucet. The invention of the faucet was the catalyst that spawned the modern age of indoor plumbing. Although it was indeikl a hot idea, it wasn't until 1947 that a man named A1 Moen designed a faucet that could mix both hot and cold water with one handle control. Before that, desired water temperature was reached' by first burning your hand, then c o o l i n g y o u r lustrations in the basin. The single-handle washer free faucet that's found in millions of homes today combines convenience, tem perature cqntrol and durability. T h e / n e w e s t refinement in his concept /has a spout which /with only a simple lift, locks into a high-rise position more than ten inches above the sink. Think what that means when filling that 32-cup coffee urn, scrubbing oversize pans or your hair! A viewer in King City asks our central coast psy chologist Dr. Steve Brody how much our attitudes a- bout our health affect our overall wellness. A. The holiday season has ended, and many of us are now dieting or trying to do without our cigarettes or bottles of booze. Thesefefforts to change our attitudes and habits are not to be taken lightly. It is be coming increasingly evident that how we go about the daily business of living dra matically affects our health and well-being. The average life span in this country has jumped to 72 years. Yet a person who reaches 4S years of age can expect to live only three years longer than someone who reached 45 back in 1900. If for every 10 pounds a person is overweight, he or she will die two years earlier on the average than someone of ideal weight, then the con clusion is obvious. We need to take a look at our attitudes and life styles and then do something about them. If you havt * psychological question, writ* lo Slav* Brody. Pti.O.Boi 639. Frank tori.
