P.\UE 12 - PLA1NDKALKK - FRIDAY, KKBKL'AKY 25, 1983 Cared For 9 75 Honor Foster Parents A HELPING PAWS ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION P.O. Box 205 Crystal Lake. Illinois 60014 (815)459-2641 Mrs. Doris Wagner, Alden, is honored at the McHenry County board meeting with the presentation of a resolution praising her for her 33 years of services as a foster parent. Doris and her husband, Ralph, live on a farm near Alden and have cared for 975 children during their years of service. Taking part in the ceremony were, from left, former Judge James Cooney, Judge Susan Hutchinson, Mrs. Wagner, David Klasing, director of court services; and Betty Affield, chief juvenile probation officer. Don Peasley Photography Smiling and relaxed following the big surprise at the last McHenry County board meeting, Mrs. Doris Wagner had a ready explanation for her ability to care for foster children for more than 30 years. A number of the children she assisted were from the McHenry area. 'To make the world a better place we have to start with the kids. I don't believe there are any bad kids. We can dislike some of the things they do - but there are not bad kids. "We explain that our home has become their home, too, and what they did before does not count. I ex plain they are part of the family and will share in family responsibilities such as chores and work around the farm and home." A resolution saluting Mr. and Mrs. Walph Wagner was read at the County board meeting last week. Mrs. Wagner thought she was being called to the meeting to give a report on foster care. . Betty Affield, chief juvenile probation officer in McHenry county and a member of the Court Services department for 18 years, praised Mrs. Wagner's ability to care for children - from infants to those 20 years of age. She now has four adopted and three foster children in her home. Mrs. Wagner's care and her ability to help so many people will result in an ABC network appearance at 7 p.m. March 14 (Channel 7). "That's In credible" heard about her public service from one of her grown children and producers came to Alden at Thanksgiving time where 400 of her children and their families came. Mrs. Affield said the need for more foster parents is serious. The county now has 18 foster families, and the task is made easier with Mrs. Wagner serving as a consultant. "She helps deal with difficult situations and provides the benefit of her experience. Foster parents receive children under many cir cumstances. Children that are neglected, abused, dependent, or delinquent, for example, find their way to foster parents where love, patience, and discipline are provided, usually in that order." David Klasing, director of court services, made the presentation to Mrs. Wagner before the McHenry County board. "The beaten path is the safest."
