l\u;K I I - PI.AINDK.VI IIK - FHIDAY. FEBRUARY 25, Scuba Training Scheduled Le9°' Not ice IM TUP PIDPITTT A scuba training course will begin Thursday/March at 7 p.m. in the Operations room of the Emergency Operating center at the McHenry county courthouse in Woodstock. As announced by the McHenry County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (MCESDA) the course will include classroom instruction, ex tensive training at an indoor swim ming pool, and will conclude with open water dives, including one eight dijve. At the conclusion of the course, participants will be certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors in Basic, Advanced Open Water and Search and Rescue. Divers who already hold one of these cer tifications may also enroll at a reduced charge. These divers, when finished, will join the volunteer Scuba Search and Recovery team in McHenry county, according lo MCESDA Capt. William Sheehan. According to Sheehan, divers are needed in all areas of McHenry county. Within the past five years, a new concept in rescuing drowning victims has emerged. After lengthy studies and extensive research, it has been found that many victims of a cold water, near drowning may be rerived and live normal lives even after they have been in the water for 45 to 60 minutes. Proper conditions must be present, including water temperature, length of time, age of victim, etc The cer tified members of the team respond at the request of any fire district in McHenry county to assist on a drowning. Many of the fire depart ments in McHenry county already have certified search and rescue divers among their ranks of firefighters. According to Sheehan, when an incident takes place, con siderable traced divers are needed to effect a resque. The course\s open tQj^ll people age 16 and over a|id in good physical condition. The courselvill be taught by Robert ' V Pearson, a lieutenant with the Highland Park Fire department; land a certified diving instructor. The volunteers donate their time and purchase their own equipment, and discount considerations are available when they become associated with the team. Advance registration is required. To obtain an application, contact the MCESDA office at 815 338-6400. Additional information regarding the course and the charges may also be obtained at this number. Install childproof latches on cabinets w h e r e h o u s e h o l d cleaners and chemicals are stored, put safety caps over unused electrical outlets, and don't leave matches where little hands will find them. Install smoke and fire detectors. Use a hand tool only for the work it's designed to perform. Fabric scissors might cut cardboard, but utility snips will do the job safely, easily and without damage. A blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker signals a fault in the system. Find out where and why! S o m e h o u s e h o l d paints are flammable or vapor harmful. Read the labels! When soldering, even with a UL-listed iron, watch that hot tip. Periodically make an inspection tour. Keep potential hazards in mind, particularly in the furnace area. Now, while the subject of safety is on your mind, why not begin your own list of precautions. CONVERSATION BETWEEN ADAM AND EVE AAUSTVE BEEN DIFFICULT. TWEY MAD NOBODY TO TALK ABOUT. NOTICE A*0 CArAd -fid Box 333-2906 W. Rt. No. 120. McHenry. IL 60050 8I5-3U-0700 To Our Procrasting Patients! Timing in the extractions of wisdom teeth is of the utmost importance. In most cases, damage will result from keeping them too long. Once the alignment of all the teeth has shifted because of pressure from the wisdom teeth, it can only be corrected by braces. If the teeth do move forward, they will never move back by themselves, even after the wisdom teeth have finally been removed! The fact that the wisdom teeth have not yet erupted, does not necessarily mean that there is no pressure forward. Each patient has to be examined and watched carefully for any signs of pressure developing. If the wisdom teeth have to be token out, it should be done before any pannage has occured. This is why one should not wait for discomfort of pain...because then it's already too late! C " '<TJ
