SYMPATHY Lloyd and Betty Tomlinson spent many years in their home on Columbus drive, while Lloyd had his service station in McHenry. After his physical condition made it necessary to sell the business, he and Betty moved to Elkt,on, Va., returning to McHenry last year. Lloyd was taken to McHenry hospital Sunday, Feb. 20, by his daughter Shirley Ewig. The doctors and nurses did their best, but Lloyd went into a coma, and died Monday evening. Mourning are his wife, Betty, daughters Sandra Kay McCashin, Shirley Ewig, Karen, and Peggy Rupp of Lakemoor, sons Thomas and Richard, and all their fmailies. Our sympathy goes to the family. Even when delicate health foreshadows death, the final parting is filled with pain. So cry together, forgive, and remember the joyous times. APPENDECTOMY NOT TO BE Danny Douglass, son of Karen and Del Douglass of Lilymoor, was hospitalized Feb. 19, due to severe abdominal pain. Danny's appendix was the cause, but the doctor opted for medication instead of surgery at this time. Danny was released three days later, still with some discomfort, but with appendix intact. CELEBRATIONS The birthday of Louise Hipwell will be honored Mar. 2. Louise will not be home to see the ground breaking for the new library building Mar. 1. It was during her tenure as president of the McHenry Nunda Library Board of Trustees, that the property where the library will be built was purchased by the district. Her contribution is recognized and appreciated. Mar. 3 marks the date of birth for Helen Povidas and young Mike Hibbs. Jim Hayes of Lilymoor celebrates his day on the 7th. Anniversary time for Jackie (Marlene) and Carl Stromley of Lily Lake Park is Mar. 2. Wishes for a happier and healthier year go to these dear friends. Everybody should have such considerate and helpful neigh bors. MORE GAS SIPHONED Sometime during the night hours of Saturday or Sunday the 18th or 19th of February, a need for gasoline developed. The main problem being, the need wasn't met at the gas station, but was taken from cars in the driveway of a resident on Lily Lake road. Almost empty gas tanks, and new spots on the blacktopped driveway were all that showed because of the theft. Again-keep vehicles in locked garages, or keep gas tanks locked, or keep outside doberman pinschers. Or donate your hard earned gas to a thief. CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST The Senior Citizen Meet and Eat Center at the Moose lodge on Route 120, will be busier than usual this Thursday, Mar. 3. Julia Kraus, volunteer receptionist, will be there early to help with the Continental Breakfast that will be available after 9 o'clock, for those persons waiting to have their blood pressure taken later in the morning. A reservation of one day in advance is necessary in order that site manager Dorothy Loss will have enough rolls and coffee on hand. The free blood pressure screening starts at 11 a.m. No reservations are required for that service. MEMORABILIA OF LILY LAKE AREA Our area as it was remembered by those who have lived here for many years and the changes that have been made, are items of interest that are needed for our participation in the McHenry County Historical Society's twentieth Anniversary celebration. Our area will be recognized on Aug. 7. Start writing down your memories of how it was. Any papers, memen toes, pictures of special occasions, would help make an interesting display. Please forward any materials to me, as I am the contact person for our area. By participating, our local history will be kept in the McHenry County Historical Society's records for generations to come. MARCH 2,1983 Farm PIK Signup Continues PIANO WORKSHOP On March 12, Reid Alexander, judge for the 1982 National Piano Teachers guild auditions in Crystal Lake, returns for a workshop with the members of the Fox Hills chapter of the Illinois State Music Teachers, and will give a master class for students of the teachers. The Workshop will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Crystal Lake and Dole avenues. The McHenry County Agricultural Stabilization ,€nd Conservation ser- ice began accepting applications for the payment-in-kind program Jan. 24. "The signup period ends March 11, 1983, so we urge farmers to come in early," Susan A. Maraccini, county executive director, said. The program is a land diversion program designed to bring supplies more in line with demand. The government offers farmers a com modity for reducing acreage by a larger amount than the 20 percent called for under previously announced voluntary acreage reduction and land diversion programs. Commodities eligible for the program are wheat, rice, corn, grain sorghum, and upland cotton. "Producers on any farm for which a 1983 base and yield have been established under the acreage reduction programs are eligible to participate in the PIK program," Ms. Maraccini said. At signup, farmers indicate the percentage of their established base they want to divert and sign a con- A boa constrictor may reach a length of 12 feet. Driving On Ice An icy road is twice as slippery when the temperature is 30 degrees F as it is when it is zero, the National Safety council said. Don't drive faster just because the road seems clear and dry. What looks like a small puddle might be ice that could put you in a skid. Pregnant NEED HELP? . Therefore, the PIK program partic ipant may divert from 30 to 50 percent of his or her established base," Ms. Maraccini said. Under the program, farmers have the right to receive bushels or pounds of the crops from which acreage was diverted. However, the Commodity Credit corporation reserves the right to substitute, on a bushel for bushel basis, corn for grain sorghum, she said. The amount of crop entitlement will be determined by multiplying 80 percent (95 percent for wheat) times the farm program yield, times the acres diverted from production of the crop under the PIK program The PIK program is expected to reduce total wheat, corn and sorghum production by more than 1 billion bushels; cotton production by 2.5 million bales; and rice production by 21 million hundredweight. Farmers are urged to contact their local ASCS office for additional in formation on the PIK program. amroclc CLEANERS "JhfL Manila.
