GEORGE "PETE" CORSON First aid is needed, and the Boy Scouts, true to their motto "Be Prepared", are learning just how to do that - give first aid when needed. Thursday evening, March 3, in the gym of Lundahl Junior high school, Nash road. Crystal Lake, Scout troops from all over McHenry county fin alized a first aid meet that has been in progress throughout the county or Kishwaukee district, as the Scouts call it. Each local troop had a contest within its own troop since December. These Scouts have spent many hours studying and practicing to get where they are. They will be tomorrow's doctors, male nurses and volunteer paramedics. On March 3 the Number 1 patrol from these troops demonstrated members' ability to fulfil four roblems, revealed one at a time inning at 7 p.m. by chairman of the meet, Sgt. George "Pete" Corson, in charge of Safety Education for the McHenry County Sheriff's depart ment. This entire evening was operated by Eagle Scouts of Kish waukee district. Also, they judged the event together with paramedics of McHenry county. The assistant chairman of the event was Scouter James Bennett of Oak- dale. Jim has had many years of first aid. During World War II he was a corpsman in the U.S. Marines assigned for four years to a navy hospital ship. McHenry hospital (Northern Illinois Medical center) has installed a Wang VS (virtual storage) computer in the data processing department. Conklin will bring the message entitled, "The Eternal State" and there will be communion at the close of the service. Last Sunday, Ted Liacas was received into membership. As Pastor Conklin has been teaching on some rather current and difficult topics in recent weeks, rather than a message at the Bible fellowship hour this past Sunday, he opened up the time for a question and answer period. Those in attendance participated in a lively and enlightening session which an swered many questions engendered during recent weeks. The people of the church look forward to more op portunities like this in the future. This Saturday, March 5, the Couples' Bible study will meet at the home of Ed and Norma Dose in Crystal Lake. On Saturday, March 12, the Sunday school staff and their guests will enjoy their annual evening out with dinner and a program at the Christian League for the Handicapped in Walworth, Wis. Those desiring to attend should contact Phil Bell or Ed Dose. All of the services and activities of the Wonder Lake Bible church are open to the public. ministrative functions in the hospital, it actually can mean a difference in direct patient care. When the transfer of information from the previous equipment to the new computer is completed, CRT work stations will be installed at the nurses' stations late in fall of this year. These will allow faster transfer of information bet ween ancillary services and nursing, or between medical records and the business office, for example. The computer will cut office ex penses, permit more comprehensive and complete financial management^ efficient information handling and retrieval, and is user-oriented. Thus, a limited-size programming staff can manage a large, fast-paced program. There are currently 200 programs on the computer, with plans to double this amount. Presently, mailing lists, payroll, patient accounts, emergency medical services statistics, the general ledger, in-house education programs and data, and medical records, are typical programs on the computer. The pharmacy, inventory control, complete medical records abstracting, and radiology orde? entry and results, are among special categories to be added in the near future. Nearly a year of planning, evaluating, and selecting went into the choice of this computer. The new computer offers the medical and nursing staffs, ad ministration, the pharmacy, and other health care professionals an opportunity to be freed of clerical tasks while maintaining the important communication links between the many departments that comprise a hospital. The system of numbering highways in the U.S. began in 1925, a suggestion from a Wisconsin highway engineer.
