Jones of 413 Highland drive, McHenry, has departed on a deployment to Okinawa. He is a membr of 1st battalion, 6th Marines, Camp Lejeune, N.C. The unit will spend six months overseas as a part of the Marine corps' unit deployment program. The concept is designed to rotate whole battalions or squadrons at a time instead of individuals at separate intervals. In this way, unit integrity is retained and the actual time they spend overseas is shortened. During the deployment, the command will conduct training exercises with the U.S. 7th fleet and units of allied nations. NEW MEMBERS SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS CHURCH A New Member Sponsor program was introduced at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry, Sunday, March 13. New members were greeted by the congregation at the 10:45 a.m. worship service. Under the supervision of the Evangelism committee and Pastor Roger W. Schneider, a current member sponsor family was designated for each new member family received into the congregation. All sponsor families were encouraged to acquaint themselves with their new member family prior to. March 13. At a special point in-the worship service, the new members and their sponsors were introdudced to the congregation and invited to come forward to receive a. certificate of church membership from Pastor Roger W. Schneider. Following the worship service, all of the new mem­ bers and their sponsors stood in a receiving line at the door of the church to be greeted by the members of the parish. In the near future, the new mem­ bers, accompanied by the current member sponsors, will be guests at a new member coffee reception held in their honor in the fellowship hall of the church. The reception will be hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kot, and Mr. and Mrs. Wiliam Teichmiller of the Evangelism committee, and will be open to the entire congregation. The sponsor families will also be encouraged to keep their new families String Quartet Gives Concert The Vermilion String quartet will give^a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, MajJjfc l&flforthte Auditorium of Crystal Lake South high school. This young professional quartet is now in residence at Northern Illinois university. They are teaching assistants to the world renowned Vermeer Quartet. The Crystal Lake appearances of the Quartet are sponsored jointly by School Districts 47 and 155 and the McHenry County Youth orchestra. They will perform for the Youth or­ chestra and other interested students at 4 p.m. in the "Conversation Pit" at Crystal Lake South high school. Senior citizens who prefer not to go out at night are welcome to attend the 4 p.m. concert. Admission for this program is minimal. apprised of special church events throughout the year. Featuring narration by Billy Graham and Cliff Barrows, the film weaves together Scripture passages, great works of religious art, music, and some of the most stunning color footage ever filmed in the Holy Land. The film touches the heart and mind of the viewer with its relevance to twentieth-century mankind. BEEKEEPERS MEET The March meeting of the Northern Illinois Beekeepers' association will be held Friday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the McHenry County Farm Bureau building, 11909 McConnell road, Woodstock. Assembling equipment and preparing to hive packaged bees will be demonstrated. Bruce Mohnen will discuss monthly chores and a film will be shown.
