Mar. 23,1963) No. 830119 t' LAKEMOOIVLILYMOOR AREA JV\orgoret Karas 385-4934 Pet Killed By Driver's Speed Pain caused by the thoughtlessness of others hurts even more. Every time viN$ncy Martina and her family see a car racing down their subdivision ^tpeet, the stabbing pain returns. <&Candy, Nancy's little off-white poodle type friend and constant Cfmpanion of many years, was hit by ailriver who did not stop, on March 14. Bleeding from a head injury, the •Martinas drove Candy to the vet's, but she died enroute. Nancy and Candy were inseparable. Where Nancy went, there faithful Candy was too. In the library, Candy j>at quietly in the chair, and accepted e pettings and friendships of other ^ [trons, while Nancy went about her library business. C knowing the stabs of pain that still be when thoughts of our Whimper return, we empathize with Nancy and her parents and feel their pain very personally. BOWLING TROPHY ft Cindy Minton earned another trophy for her bowling ability on £upday, March 13, at Crystal Lake Cindy was a member of the team which won first place for McHenry : county, and also a third place award for singles competition. The first week in April will find Cindy bowling in the Moline com petition. Mother Wanda has been kept busy with Cindy's bowling dates. In the five years that Cindy has been bowling, transportation has been provided to many (daces including Belleville, Peoria and Rockford. Wanda is thankful that Cindy has been able to overcome the effects of severe burns suffered in her childhood. Cindy is also in jazz and aerobic classes at school. All of this activity keeps Wanda's schedule busy. She is adding to it herself by volunteering to be a worker in the Cancer Crusade in her area, which will be held in April. FLORIDA TRIP Jean and A1 Dember of Lakemoor flew to Cocoa Beach, Fla., Feb. 7 for a three-week vacation in the sunny (?) south. There was a lot of rain, but the Dembers enjoyed the ocean front, and when the weather wasn't cooperating, went to the assorted enclosed shop ping areas. They visited with former residents Phil and Doris Kibbe at Melbourne. They decided against attending the latest Disney attraction at this time, but will see that in another year when it is beyond the trial-and-error stage. FINAL SEPARATION . Two families in Frifftcfcfe Estates were saddened by the loss of a father and grandfather. George Emer Lane died March 12 after a two-week stay in the Veteran's hospital. Mourning are his daughters Dorothy Neeley and Katherine Hibbs, five sons, and all their families. Katherine was given the flag from the casket. George had 20 grandchildren. His oldest granddaughter, Ramona Neeley, was especially close to her grandfather. She had been visiting him in the hospital when he could no longer communicate, but a pressure from his hand said he heard her. Ramona expressed her love with one red rose in his casket, with a message of what he had meant to her. Sympathy is extended to the Neeley and Hibbs families. BIRTHDAYS Belated wishes for a special year go to Jessy James LiChard, who was 16 on the twelfth of March. Jessy also made the East campus honor roll last semester. Anthony Gurske celebrates his birthday March 23. March 25 is a popular date, with - Joan O'Brien, Mary Anderson and Pat Epperson all adding another year the same day. ROADSIDE GARBAGE The snow covered the remains of some people's appetites. But now all is bare and exposed, and the ethnic quality of the American people becomes more painfully evident. "If you can't digest it, throw it on the roadside". This results in a variety of bottles, cans, paper and plastic wrappers disposed of at no cost, except to those who see the in creasing piles of garbage on the roadsides. In a one block area, we picked up three large bags of garbage, not infcluding the larger swing sets^ bed springs, etc., that can't be bagged. A never ending battle is waged by the throwers-away and the pickers- up. Just drive down Lily Lake road and you can see the areas that are won by each faction. Do not the clean roadsides give an appreciation of the beauty of our more rural area? Help by holding on to your garbage until a proper receptacle is found. Then we can all enjoy the natural beauty of our countryside. During the Vietnam war, however, only one in three men of draft age actually served. Hie war was un popular and there were many ways to avoid military active duty. Those who went returned to civilian life during a decade of recurring recessions. Non- veterans their age already had jobs or a higher education. Vets lucky enough to find employment had less seniority when the next cycle of layoffs came. This pattern will continue to penalize Vietnam era veterans all their working lives, and be reflected in their retirement benefits. hi 1 3>f e 6 IMS AD COULD BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR NEA1HL A Delicious Easter Tradition/ Smoked Sausage and Polska Klelbasa (KMbaaa z Kapuatt) lt.H*WeFwmPolikeKi*w« 1 medium frm head graen cabbage * 6 akcM bacon 1th 1 madum onion, chopped 2 re auger ^ Vs tap. cruahed red pappar (option*) 2 tap caraway Remove.
