Based on the book by Albei Hawse, Vinegar Boy is a tendei Easter story set in the time of Christ. Abandoned by his parents because of a terrible birthmark on his face, he is taken to the Fortress Antonia by Nichplas, commissary steward to Pontius Pilate's Roman garrison. As the story set to music unfolds, Vinegar Boy takes a jug of vinegar and myrrh to the Crucifixion Hill, his daily chore. But his plans to have his scar removed by the "Man of Miracles" are interferred with. The story that follows is interwoven with the familiar Easter story and the concept of self-acceptance, the fact that God loves him and accepts him - just the way he is! Ricky Stark has the lead as Vinegar Boy. His young voice does a superb rendition of the meaningul song, "Why Did He Die?" He is supported in the cast by Lee Lockwood as Nicholas, Jeff Stark as Marconius and Ricky Jensen as Phineas,... Two numbers performed by the choir that have a great impact are, "Who They Gonna Crucify Today?" and "The Real Me". The musical is directed by Ed and Irene Wittrock and assisted by Carl Kohrt. Everyone in the community is invited to this singspirational program. There is no charge for admission. Open Meetings Decision Illinois Attorney General Neil F. Hartigan has advised, in a formal legal opinion, that public bodies meeting in a quasi-judicial capacity must conduct their deliberations in public under the provisions of the Illinois Open Meetings act. PAGE 17 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MARCH 25,1983 Abnormal Readings Increase In Testing For Diabetes Diabetes Detection week 1982 was termed a success by the American Diabetes association as 11,181 people received a free diabetes detection test at one of 88 hospitals and health care centers in northern Illinois. Of those tested approximately 12 percent registered an abnormal blood sugar level, which is the most predominant early warning sign of diabetes. The tests, given in November as part of National* Diabetes month, show a one percent increase in abnormal readings from 1981. "Detection week '82 demonstrated the cooperation and community service of many hospitals and their staffs," said Jerry Woolley, executive director of the ADA's Northern Illinois affiliate. "I'm pleased more people took advantage of this simple test, but it's unfortunate that the level of abnormal blood sugar levels was so high." McHenry hospital ran 144 tests and had 19 abnormal tests. Other early warning signs of diabetes include frequent urination, drowsiness, abnormal thirst, general weakness, rapid weight loss, visual disturbances, extreme hunger and skin infections.
