Walz TUBE SCOOPS -- More news from the pilot wars. MGM is pitching a series version to ABC of "Lovers and Other Strangers" with Harry Guardlno and Randi Oakes. They are also offering to CBS an ensemble comedy about a large corporation called "Empire" and "1001 Arabian Nights" as a miniseries to NBC. Roy Huggins, who produced such TV series as "Alias Smith and Jones" and "Baretta" has been signed by Columbia Pictures TV. He has begun working on a CBS series pilot called "111 Rodeo Drive"... Robert Conrad is back in the news again with his A. Shane Company, which is making "Junior Military Academy," about a coeducational military prep school. Conrad is also developing "Discount Detective," a sitcom about a department-store private eye; "Base­ ment Boys," a contemporary "Bowery Boys"; and "South China Tramps," the story of the Flying Tigers, America's volunteer fighter pilots who fought in China against the Japanese. He's also working on a series about aspiring young actors and actresses called "Stu­ dio Club." AWARD SHOWS --' Liza Minnelll, Dudley Moore and Richard Pryor will share hosting duties when the Academy Award ceremonies air on ABC, Monday, April 11: Johnny Carson has taken a year's sabbatical. Meanwhile, NBC has won the rights to telecast the "35th Annual Emmy Awards," which will air on Sunday, Sept. 25. STARLETS -- Kate Capshaw, who has made several TV-movies and one major feature film ("A Little Sex"), may become one of the hottest actresses of 1983-84.
