"Try Some Veggies" People who are more and more concerned about how much saturated fat and, consequently, cholesterol they have in the diet should eat all those wonderful fruits and vegetables which contain no cholesterol. Fruits, vegetables, cereals, and grains contain very little fat of any kind and, therefore, no cholesterol. Besides that, there are other very good reasons for eating fruits and vegetables. They are high in color, texture, and variety and so lend wonderful variety to meals and make them more in teresting. Fruits and vegetables are also high in taste. Another good point for those who are weight conscious is that fruits and vegetables are very low in calories. They are also low in saturated fats, except coconut. So, lower your cholesterol and your weight by eating foods that are fresh and crunchy - mainly vegetables and fruits. No one is saying that you should not eat any meat, but there are some helpful hints on what meats that you might want to cut down mi and what you can do in cooking them so the cholesterol count is lower. Saturated fats are high in beef, pork, ham, butter, cream, ice cream, whole mjlk, cheese, and, of course, in the many solid hydrogenated vegetable shor- more cereals and grains. Also, don't fry everything. Try broiling, boiling, roasting or stewing. Trimming off all the extra fat before cooking and skimming the fat off the meat juices will remove a great deal of the fat; In making soup which contains meat, chill the soup so you can skim the fat off the top when it starts to congeal and harden. All of these things help reduce cholesterol. But even more im portant, for a litle zip, coin-, taste, and flavor, and most of all for your own good^health, try more vegetables and For free brochures and inforniation on nutrition, contact the niinnia State Council on Nutrition, 524 S.
