But the phenomenal popularity of George Reinholt on "Another World" in the '60s, or more recently, Tony Geary on "General Hospital," shows that even soap operas are superstar material. The latest potential superstar is Charles Flohe, the 22-year-old actor who has created quite a stir after playing "Edge of Night's" Preacher Emerson for only the past three months. Preacher is by no means a man of the cloth. "He's a punk who has a good heart," says Flohe, "who was first brought on the show on a temporary basis to fatally beat an innocent girl." But viewers cottoned fast to Flohe's Paul Newman-esque blue eyes and frequent displays of his hip-swinging dancing abili ties as the proprietor of Monticello's Video Disco. Viewers flooded the "EON" studios with fan mail, and Flohe was honored with both a two-year contract and a place in the show's opening credits. "I grew up mainly in the South, so I can relate to Preacher's background," says Flohe, who traveled all over the country as the step-on of an Army officer. Charles Flohe Flohe, who initially want ed to become a model, found himself becoming interested in acting. While studying his craft, he worked many odd jobs. For a while, he was a bouncer at Regine's, the New York high-society disco, which is quite different than the Video Disco. Flohe says he loves working on "EON." "Nick (Nicholson, the producer) and the directors give me a lot of room to improvise. And the other actors are very giving in that they always find time to help newcorfiers like me. And I adore working with Lori (Loughlin, who plays Jody)." Flohe's pairing with the beautiful Miss Loughlin is a wonderful combination in a medium that thrives on "teen romances." But they are much more than just an extraordinary looking cou ple -- both have charisma and acting talent. @19«3Computog
