One and the same. Miss Long did quite a bit of local TV in Chicago, including that commercial, before going on to "Cheers." She is yet another graduate of Chicago's Second City troupe. CORE QUESTION -- Where was the town of Appleton in the series "Apple's Way" and who played the father? -- J.S.B. George Apple was played by Ronny Cox and his hometown was in Iowa. WHICH WARRIOR? -- I recognized the actress who starred in "The Warriors," which was just on TV, but can't place her. Please help. Also, who played AJax in the movie? -- M.F. You must not be a fan of "Too Close for Comfort." Deborah Van Valkenburgh, who plays Ted Knight's dark-haired daughter, Jackie, on the sitcom, made her big-screen debut in that controversial Walter Hill 1979 movie. As for the hot-headed gang member Ajax, he was played by James Remar. He has also appeared in two other Hill films. He was Belle Starr's Indian husband in "The Long Riders" and is one of the killers in "48 Hrs." FIERCE PIERCE -- Pierce Brosnan reminds me of a young William Powell, the same great looks and charm. Where did they find him? I'm going there to look around. -- A.F. Your charmer was "found" in "The Manions of America," a 1980 min- iseries a couple of years back in which he played an Irishman who emigrated to America after the famine. The producers of that show found him in London, where Brosnan had lived since the age of 11 when his family moved from Ireland. He'd been working on the British stage and TV when he was discovered.
