But someday soon we may all look back at this junk mail with nostalgic longing, the same way we now look back at the old Sears Roebuck catalog. They tell us that instead of going to shopping malls or thumbing through mail order catalogs, we'll do our shopping by scanning a videotex screen in our home. They do everything, we're told. For some of us, however, the old catalog still represents something in our past worth remembering. Maybe videotex will be equally a part of our lives some day, but we wonder what happens if the "catalog" blows a fuse. "Thus, projects or causes which serve a significant number of persons residing outside the city of Crystal Lake were excluded," according to a letter distributed Friday by the trustee bank. In the letter, the trustee stated that the Crystal Lake Public library "was built and is currently maintained exclusively for persons residing in or near Crystal Lake. The interest of the Crystal Lake citizenry in its growth was confirmed by the vote of approval given the library by its residents in the recent bdhd issue referendum." The award to the library is con ditioned upon the naming of all or a portion of the proposed library ex pansion in the memory of Thomas W. Ames. The trustee, in making the award to the library, stated that the library board should be free to use the trust funds to "increase or improve the library expansion, purchase, ad ditional books or equipment, or reduce the bond debt as they see fit." They varied from an aquatic demonstration to an Air Force presentation of survival shelters made from parachutes. Most of the more than 2,o0o Scouts of all ages were involved in some way in the presentation, which is an annual event. It allowed Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers to demonstrate as a unit their skills, at their own levels, for the public. Proceeds give them an opportunity to assist, through ticket sales, in financing their own unit, the council, and in a smaller way, the national scouting program. At the same time, each one earned patches and prizes. Those who sold enough tickets also paid their way to Scout summer camp or Cub Scout day camp on a Scout show campership. All of the participants were members of Kishwaukee district, which takes its name from the Indian word for the Sycamore tree. The council extends from the Fox river to the Mississipppi river and includes the southwestern three counties of Wisconsin as well as most of the northern two tiers of those in Illinois.
