V/t MILES EAST OF McHENRY 385-9869 Church Given AAL Charter -- • .... , , Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Avischious and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sproull view n charter granted to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church by Aid Association for Lutherans. On Sunday, May 1, Aid Association for Lutherans, a fraternal organization based in Appleton, Wis., granted a charter to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran chulrch, 404 North Green street, McHenry, to form Branch No. 5880. As a fraternal organization, Aid Association for Lutherans provides insurance coverage to its membership and donates a portion of its profits back to its membership through a branch or sub-group formed within a local area or congregation. As the result of a branch being formed in the local congregation, many local benevolence-type projects can be underwritten by the gifts from the fraternal organization. Such projects as providing wheelchairs, smoke alarms, and other services for the elderly, as well as creating camping and college scholarships for young people are but a few of the services provided through the local branch. Usually, projects set up and carried out by local leadership are met with matching funds from the fraternal organization., Elected to head the local branch were Thomas Sproull, president; La vera Roepke, vice-president; and Gary Ricker, secretary and treasurer. These elected officers also served as the steering committee to arrange for the establishment of the new branch at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church. The charter was granted to the congregation at a special banquet Sunday evening, May 1, where Raymond G: Avischious, chairman of the board, was the guest speaker.
