A1 Baur called to show us a beautiful picture of the Challenger taken by his son before the mammouth ship took off into space. "You mentioned wood sidewalks in earlier days. How about the crosswalks?" My earliest recollection is that crosswalks were brick. Tar sidewalks came along in residential areas. They were uneven and somewhat of a mess. Gene Morenz had three fair ladies with him at Bimbo's, his wife Martha, Lucille Weingart and a sharp looking senior citizen whom we later learned was Gene's mother. Mother Morenz was celebrating her 86th birthday and proudly showed us a group nirture of the Morenz family. My mention of the passing of the row boats prompted a reader to tell me to watch Boone Creek now that it has been dredged. "Residents along the creek will be riding up and down like gondolas on the canals of Venice," was the word." That I doubt. How far can you go in a row boat? Maybe power boats are what we will SG8) especially if they want to venture into Fox River and the Chain 0' Lakes. We chanced on the name "Begora" in the Marengo phone book. Alex and Elvera Juste.. 'ere wlecome visitors to our doo:. They recently returned from Florida and reported a great time at McHenry Day in Tarpon Springs. Alex also reported on Coach Stringer who plans to keep reading S.l.H. until he is 100 years old. That's a nice thought, but I'll be turned out to pasture before that time. John McGee, a real sports fan, says, "Stick with those Sox. They may get worse before they get better." Not any worse, John! - My mother once told me that when I didn't know what to write about, I should pick up a magazine, <open it and the first word I saw should be my start. So I did just that and in bold letters I saw two words -- FAT CHANCE SO - THERE IS A FAT CHANCE: Of the Cubs or Sox playing in the 1983 World Series. & Of Coach Ludwig ever landing a 7- foot center.
