Harding Graduate* At spring commencement exercises at Harding university, Searcy, Arte., 362 seniors received diplomas presented by President Clifton L. Ganus Jr. Among those receiving degrees was Jack Alan Rawlings, a management major whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Rawlings, 613 Emerald drive, McHenry. Dr. E. Keith Stotts, president of Ohio Valley college in Parkersburg, W. Va., addressed the graduates. He was awarded an honorary doctor of laws from Harding, where he received the Bachelor of Arts in 1955. Commencement speaker was John R. Block, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Ms. Jagier graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Com­ munication. ELECTED SECRETARY JoAnne Blume of McHenry has been elected recording secretary of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater chapter of Phi Beta Lambda for the fall semester. Phi Beta Lambda is a national organization for college students enrolled in business programs. JoAnne, a junior in secretarial administration, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Blume, 40pZ W. Grand street. Three From Area Graduate At WIU More than 1,400 students completing bachelor and graduate degree programs at Western Illinois university participated in com­ mencement exercises at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14 in Hanson field. Area graduates included J. Joseph Senn, 4715 W. Crystal Lake road, Arts and Sciences and Bachelor of Science degree; Mark Szumlas, 3314 Cove court, and Scott Donarski, 3111 W. Crescent, each a Bachelor of Business degree. The full day of activities opened in the Union with commissioning of 30 second lieutenants through the Army ROTC program at WIU. A graduate degree hooding ceremony was held ih the Union Grand ballroom WIU President Leslie F. Malpass T, made remarks and conferred degrees upon the graduating class. oJ N1SRA DAY CAMPS w. MCC's Agriculture club had held the honor for two years. Sponsored by the Student Life committee, the dinner dance honored students for academic and extra­ curricular activities of the 1982-83 school year. MCC students were first honored for academic achievement. Lauded for achievement in production agriculture was Skip Schramer of Wonder Lake. The business division honored five individuals in appreciation of their work in the data processing lab in­ cluding Dean Howard of McHenry. Awards were then handed out to athletes. Most valuable player awards for intercollegiate athletics were given to Mike Peterson of McHenry for cross country. Mary Chilvers of McHenry for women's basketball and Mark Wilkinson of Spring Grove for men's basketball. Additional most valuable player awards were presented to Ed Resetar of Wonder Lake for men's wrestling, Dave Smith of McHenry for men's baseball, and Miry Chilvers * of McHenry for women's softball. Ping-pong champion was Joe Gasiorawski of Wonder Lake. Kevin Christianson of Wonder Lake and Rick Peterson of McHenry took top honors in weight lifting. Twenty-two MCC students were honored for8 being included in Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Ten students were named student of the month during the course of the school year. Several clubs and organizations singled out individuals for special mention. International club presented a distinguished service award to Kelly Chilvers of McHenry. Newman club lauded Eileen Rabelhofer of Spring Grove for leadership. Recognized as outstanding member of the Student Life committee was Dean Howard of McHenry. Come To Columbia Bay... Defer Proposed Fare Hike The Regional Transportation Authority at a special meeting of the board of directors May 19, passed a resolution deferring until Aug. 1, 1983, the proposed fare increases in­ corporated in the Authority's Fiscal year 1983 budget scheduled to take effect July 1, RTA Chairman Lewis W. Hill announced. "We have deferred the proposed fare increases in order to cooperate with Governor Thompson and the Legislative leaders meeting in Springfield on funding for the Regional Transportation Authority," said Chairman Hill. "Whether or not there is a fare increase, depends on the availability of funds, and we did not wish to act prematurely in this matter," Chairman Hill continued. "We appreciate the attitude and spirit with which the Governor and members of the Legislature are ad­ dressing the problem of funding for transportation in Northeast Illinois," Chairman Hill said in conclusion.
