The "General Hospital" actor is the first "crossover" soap star -- known not as a mere day­ time player who "moved up" to nighttime and who just happened to get his start on a soap, but as a celebrity recognized for his work while still on a soap. Three summers ago, Geary gained such noto­ riety (along with former co- star Genie Francis) that he appeared on the cover of Newsweek. This year he soloed on the cover of People.
