Mayor Joseph B. Stanek spoke briefly, followed by remarks on the early history of McHonry by Earl R. Walsh, former city clerk. Photos of earlier days brought to the museum by area residents attracted much attention as did antique articles donated earlier, which were marked for the special day with red stars. Nancy Fike, museum curator, from McHonry, welcomed the crowd and expressed her pleasure at the interest shown. She said it was the most successful effort to date and would not have been possible without the effort and cooperation of people like Adele Froehlich, Plaindealer editor, and Earl Walsh. Water Safety Urged This Summer what might be or might become a dangerous water situation, wear a PFD," Bernardi urged. The Coast Guard and Underwriters Laboratories spokesmen point out that newer PFDs are comfortable and stylish and come in bright colors for easy sighting in the water. They also note that PFDs should be selected to the person's size and weight. "The old-fashioned 'Mae West' is gone. A personal flotation device is just that; personal. Pick one like you'd pick a jacket, for fit and comfort and for your weight. Except you're not just picking a jacket; you're picking "a friend for life", Bernardi said. PFDs tested by Underwriters Laboratories to Coast Guard specifications carry U.S Coast Guard and UL markings. including James Ashbaugh, Helen Golbeck, Dewey "Bud" Lytle, Michael O'Connor, and Joan Syer.
