PAGE 19 - PLAINDfc,<2R - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29,1M3 * LAKELAND PARK 6 LAKELAND SHORES Corol Cominsky 365-7246 Driver License Bill To Governor Secretary of State Jim Edgar said that a bill sent to the overnor Monday by the House, extending the life of Illinois drivers licenses from three to four years, will make license renewal more efficient and less ex pensive. Senate Bill 490 was passed by a House vote of 116 to 0. Under the legislation, the cost of a four-year license would be $10, compared to the current three-year license fee of $8. As a result, the an nual cost of a license would be reduced from $2.67 to $2.50. If the legislation becomes law, drivers under age 69 would be required to take the written test once every eight years and the vision test every four years. Drivers 69 and older would be required to take the vision, written and driving examination every four years under the proposed law rather than once every three years as is now required. Edgar said 32 other states have found that four-year licenses are more efficient to administer while meeting traffic safety concerns through regular testing^ requirements,. Right now she's spending some time with her grandfather in Cheyenne, Wyo. while her dad tends to some business. When he returns she'll hop back on the truck and see a few more sights before heading back home. HE'LL BE MISSED It is very hard for me to report a death; especially when it is a friend. Our good friend and neighbor, Duane Winn passed away Friday, June 17, after an illness we thought he'd fully • recover from. We'll miss the sound of his horn tooting each and every time he passed our house or the sound of his bike beli when he was out exercising. Whenever you needed a helping hand he was always there. Now I hope we can extend a hand to his wife Denise during this time of great loss. WELCOME We have a new young couple living in Lakeland Park as of one month ago. Welcome to Tim and Gloria Hocin, who now reside on Shorehill. This couple will be celebrating their first wedding anniversary July 3, and we send them our congratulations and wishes for many more years together. According to a spokesman for the troop, these boys will use the money they earn Satur day, July 2, at the recycling drive to pay the cost of attending camp. The drive, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of McHenry Market Place, will be jointly conducted by the McHenry County Defenders and Troop 152. This troop, composed of 30 boys, ages 8-11, is sponsored by the Lake-in-the-Hills Methodist church and has as scout master, Dr. Dale McDowell. Items which can be brought to the drive to help both these organizations include newspaper with no cardboard, magazines or junk mail, glass con tainers with all plastic and metal removed, "tin" cans flattened and clean, used motor oil in plastic or metal containers, and aluminum scrap of all kinds. A pay-back program is in effect, for all-aluminum cans, with a bonus paid for lots of more than 100 pounds. Uncrushed cans may also be brought in, but receive 1 cent less per lb. For recyclers who would like to clean out their garages and basements more often, the McHenry County Defenders will conduct a payback program for aluminum cans and glass containers on Thursday morning June 30 from 10 to noon, also in the parking lot of McHenry Market Place. From then on the Thursday buy-back program will be held monthly on the second Thursday of each month.
