Auto Racing Fridays Mean Wilmot For Guy The weekend means different activities for different people. Everybody has their particular thing to do. For area stock car drivers, Friday is the day to head for Wilmot, Wise, for the races. Bruce Guy from McHenry is one of those area drivers who tests their driving skills against other stock car drivers every weekend at Wilmot Speedway. He competes in the late model sportsman class. Guy has been car racing the last 10 years, heavy the last four years. Most of his stock car racing is done at Wilmot. He now drives a car he jointly owns with Bruce Melahn. Both are mechanics at Mitchell Buick. The car was a 1971 Camaro changed to a 1983 Firebird. Both Guy and Melahn are looking for that first place this season. But a double play (Continued on pag* 7) With a nippy touch of autumn in the air, the ladies at McHenry Country Club got off to an early morning start for the semi-final round of their match play tournament Tuesday. In first flight, it was Virginia Turrier over Carol Cooney and Floss O'Connell over Espar Oja in a couple of tight matches. By mutual consent, the match between Dot Christensen and Margie Blomquist will be played later in the week, while Larverne Harpling downed Bernice Dolce in flight two. In flight three, Toots Gerstad downed Linda Puccio and Fran Herrmann did the same to Fran Weyland. Flight four found Speedy Neuman overcoming Rita Sayler and Betty Wayman doing the same to Marcy Wakitsch. In consolation tournament's first flight, Dot Freund overcame Marlene Smith and Betty Mohan upset Nell Fidler. Flight two found Mabel Smith winning over Betty Strauss on forfeit and Betty Rode over Carole Barnicle. Ursula Cisliek did it to Ethei Koehler in flight three, as did Betty Gossell to Maddie Holmes. In flight four, it was Virginia Spengel over Dee Chelini and Sully Consago over Ginny Lazar. Next week will find everything down to t nitty-gritty decision of who is the winner in each of the flights. The Nifty Niners event of low net found Jane Weiss shooting a pretty good round to emerge the winner, while Dorothy Flynn took low putts. And Fran Brown had a nice chip-in on number eight. Under the weekly statistics, Betty Mohan netted a nice 72 and Joanie Buss took low putts of 30 in class A. In class B, Barb Weber's good round gave her low net of 73, while a tie of 32 putts each rolled in by Laverne Harpling and Jackie Victor. More nice rounds shot by Frah Herrmann and Carole Bolger (class C) found them tying for low net with 72 each. Class D was shared by Rita Sayler and Kathy Vehring with 84 each, while Kathy had low putts of 36. Flying up to the birdie tree were Nell Fidler on number 12, Betty Mohan on number 14 and Carole Cooney on number three and 14. Carole is building quite a nest on number 14, it seems. A few recorded chip-ins found Jackie Victor sinking one on number 16, followed by Marcie Wakitsch on the same hole and one on number nine by Nell Fidler (a tough way to hold par). Except for all the noise emanating from the fouresome of Buss, Smithson, Dalton and Nolan playing their own special game, all seemed quiet on the course which, apparently made for Happy Golfing!
