PAGE 4 - PLA1NDEALER - WEDNESDAY, JULY 13,1983 "EARL WALSH" So I Hear t Just arrived home from a Sunday tHcnic at the Lynn and Larry Lund home at Lake Summerset, Davis, Illinois. Haven't had my nap, but show must go on. '*• t • ' ' t • It would take some doing to describe the beautiful, spacious home with a jieavenly setting overlooking the peaceful lake. There was food and beverage galore as a happy, friendly crowd enjoyed the day. Some swam. Some boated. jSome like me just sat. v'l never knew that Larry has a {Selection of hats and caps, about 60 of them hang along the walls. * When I saw that, I hid my lid. • If ever there is a contest for the youngest and nicest looking grand mother, I will enter Lynn's name. \ A sure winner! t Bill Weyland thinks the City Series (vas All-Cubs. He doesn't believe the way the White Sox always beat his Cubs got monotonous and the series was called off. I * When the Cubs had teams that were jsupposed to be superior, all those White Sox pitchers like Ted Lyons, (Tommy Thomas and Sam Jones had Jto do was toss their gloves on the .mound. Those Cubs folded up like morning at sunset. glories I'll have to look up the records on City Series games. Josie Smith, who grew up not far from the Vales home, read about the Comiskey family once owning that property. The Smith farm was located along River Road across from the Hickory Grange - Emerald Park area. Emerald Park School was lpcated to the south and just at the bend from the Smith residence. I remember when Margaret Sutton taught in the school. Josie says Minnie Knox was also one of the teachers in the little one room institution of learning. As mentioned previously, I always think I'll pick out parts of letters, then think let 'er fly! It is easier to print the whole thing. Here we go: Dear Mr. Walsh, Perhaps you have already received thjs article about the White sox that was printed in the Chicago Catholic Keen-Ager News for Senior Citizens. in any case I do want to take this opportunity to thank you for printing my letter a while back in your column in the McHenry Plaindealer and thank you also for the added information. The response was terrific! i KISHWAUKEE VALLEY MEDICAL GROUP, S.C. 13707 W. Jackson St., Woodstock, IL 815/338-6600 Announces the Association of JOHN H. That history of the White Sox is so complete I will put it in a permanent file. I am still trying to identify some people in pictures taken at Snug Harbor. Must get those pictures back to "The Girls" up North. Here's that girl again. We seem to have something going. S.I.H.: The hot bats the Sox and Cubs are swinging these days, brings life again to the old hope for a Chicago World Series. Any day now, this will be expressed in print by some Sports Writer. Like to bet? K. Brown Betcha you are right, K. SURPRISE! Our dear editor had a birthday Friday and her co-workers surprised her with a big spread at noon. Wayne Gaylord manned the outdoor cooker, but managed to get inside for a little nourishment. (Everybody worries about him.) Heard a bang when I wait to the back room for a paper Thursday night and found Betty Smith decorating the party room. All agreed we should celebrate more birthdays. I missed the M&M Girls, Marie and Millie. Health reasons kept them away. JoAnn wasn't working that day. I missed her, too. -And, where did my little "Irish" gal go? History was made in the baseball All-Star game. Fifty years ago, Babe Ruth hit a home run in Comiskey Parte. This year John Busscher finally struck out. I won a bet from him after he papered one room with dollar bills I paid him over the years. Gene Schaefer says all he heard from National League fans was how Lee Smith, Cub pitcher, struck out Sox slugger Ron Kittle. Guess we can sum it up this way. After losing so many years, the American League got mad and put in their first team.
