Anyone interested in being certified to be a lifeguard should sign up for this American Red Cross program. The classes will be held at Knox Park pool Monday through Friday. Class time is 10 to noon running for two weeks. Participants must have reached their fifteenth birthday and will be required to swim a minimum of 500 yards at the first class. Registration for the program is now being taken at McHenry City Hall, 1111 N. Green street. Registration for this class is limited. Director Peg R. Blaser of Illinois Department of Aging announced that the department will receive a $75,000 grant through the Emergency Jobs bill, legislation passed by Congress last April. "These dollars will be allocated to area agencies on aging and will allow the Region Two Area Agency on Aging in Kankakee to hire an employment specialist," said Blaser. "This specialist will administer the agency's Senior Community Service Employment program and will also become involved in training programs available for older workers through the Job Training Partnership act." In fulfilling these responsibilities, the specialist will serve as the area agency's liaison to local job service offices, private industry councils, universities and colleges, and private sector employers. The Region Two Area Agency on Aging serves eight counties, including McHenry, Lake , Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Will, Grundy and Kankakee.
