UC Assistant Coach Mark Pittman, a native of Wonder Lake, was appointed part-time assistant to head coach Tony Yates on the University of Cincinnati basketball coaching staff. The 28-year-old coach previosly worked with Yates on the University of Illinois staff as a volunteer during his senior year in 1977. For the past two seasons, he worked as an aide for the Illini. Pittman's main responsibilities at UC will be scouting and checking the academic progress of the players. Following graduation from •Uinois in 1977, he served as an assistant basketball coach at Rich Central High in the south suburb of Chicago for the 1978-79 year. He moved to Waterman High School as head coach and compiled a 26-22 record in two seasons. Jake Breit picked up his first win of the season, allowing seven hits in six innings pitched. The win raised the Tigers record in the Northern Illinois Baseball League to 8-2. The Tigers are tied with Algonquin for the top spot in the league. The game was close for the first three innings, with the Tigers leading 5-4 on the strength of Gary Schnulle's solo homerun in the third inning.
