Is Sr», n J?r- -ho So I Hear Many Hurt In Area Crashes You can say I chickened out, called it off or whatever you like, but I didn't go to thajtCub game on Thursday. Listening to the radio at breakfast time, I heard the temperature was going to hit 100 degrees. That did it! So - I sat in our air conditioned living room and watched the game on TV. Katie lived on the Ed Sutton farm. She arranged for me to visit the school. I had taken quite a fancy to Margaret, who later became Sister Mary St. Bride BVM (Robert reminds me). Twelve children were born to Robert J. and Bridget Knox Sutton. Those were different days. an Frankly, I was afraid to spend an afternoon in that heat. Haven't been out in the sun much (especially since my garden is small this year.) < I received absolution from Herb Reihansperger, but haven't seen John Busscher. [fv Just one of life's little disap- \t* pointments. Wonder if they will ever ask me again? If I didn't know before, I know now that towels with a velvety softness are not worth a whoop at drying your face. "Biff" Meyer phoned and asked, "How does it feel to be up there in first place?" Of course, he was referring to my White Sox. The word is "comfortable". Petie Schaefer's little girl, Evelyn Albright, thinks I should spout off more about the White Sox. Told her I have to give the Cubs equal time. I really don't say anything bad about the Cubs. It is some Cub fans that get special mention. Met the Tom Fprans last week. They came up from Florida to cool off. From the frying pan into the fire. Robert E. Sutton, St. Ambrose College, writes to question if his aunt, Margaret Sutton, was a teacher at Emerald Park School. I was a small boy when my Aunt Robert says his grandfather was president of the school board and, with so many of his children enrolled, it was often called Sutton School. Margaret Sutton. Sure, I remember her. As a small boy, I loved her and thought she was the Blessed Mother. I never knew there were yellow watermelons. They must have been mixed up with pumpkin vines. Guess you might say we went country clubbing over the weekend. Nothing fancy. Just out to meet friends and take some nourishment. Friday night found us at McHenry Country Club. That's not new. We have known our way around there for years. However, there are old friends and new friends to meet. Missed some of our favorite waitresses. Must be they had the night off. Saturday night plans led us to Chapel Hill for another pleasant evening. It was a big event to see Barbara Rauen Hettermann who I call my girl. Hadn't seen her in too long. Stanley Wilson and his ever-friendly wife, at a table for 12 persons, were enjoying relatives from England. There was one Irishman in their crowd. Messina, 4912 Willow, was flown to St. Anthony's hospital, Rockford, last weekend for treatment of injuries sustained in a motorcycle-car collision on McGuire road, near Harvard. Messina was listed in serious condition Sunday, but the report was upgraded to "good" Monday af ternoon. The driver of the car, Darrell N. Tennant, 601N. Howard St, Harvard, told county police he was driving west on McGuire road when the eastbound motorcycle crossed the center line into his lane. Tennant attempted to avoid the cyclist, but the vehicle hit the right side of his auto. The Harvard Rescue squad tran sported Messina to Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock, for Stanley said they have resided in Wonder Lake for 37 years and have been friends of ours all that time. Fox Hole Evo and his better half were also in the crowd, enjoying a night away from their own bailiwick. Coming out of church Sunday, I met a nice looking, friendly gal who asked, "Are you Earl Walsh?" This lady was one of the Hofer family residing on Fox River across from the Erbachs. Did I remember? Sure do. It was in the early 20's that I met Helen Erbach at a party in the Ben Stilling home. Helen was a pretty blonde who would draw a second look from any young man. We went dancing a few times, but she was a Chicago girl and went back to the big city. Local boys and girls took special interest in young summer visitors. When Labor Day came, the visitors left and the natives got together again. Former residents, John and Dorothy Weichmann came a-callin' Sunday. They toured up from Yellville, Arkansas to visit family members and friends. John was a McHenry policeman for mnny yffars. Dorothy, who once wrbte foFWS1' Plaindealer is Assistant Editor and columnist way down there in Arkansas. McHenry has changed for these former residents. Told them it has changed for us, too. There was a day when we knew everybody in the area. Fortunately, we find many newcomers very friendly. treatment. He was later transferred • to St. Anthony's via Lifeline helicopter. MCCULLOM LAKE Dawn Miller 385-4901 Lot Cleanup Is Stressed The second board meeting of July was held Tuesday evening, the 19th and lot cleanup was the main topic. You may have noticed that many of the vacant lots are being cleaned up. Letters were sent out to the owners of these lots. The response was good and so therefore, the lots are being mowed. Many of you may have noticed that part of the horse pasture on the south side of McCullom Lake road has been fenced in with an opening and culvert on McCullom Lake road. This piece of property is park property of the village. It took over a year of hard work on the board's part for this to take place. So now if you want to walk down or drive through this park you can. It's for us residents to enjoy. At this time, I would like to list our trustees and their departments and numbers: Roland Hughes-Police, 385- 1399; Carol Krumsee-Finance, 385- 8589; John Morris-Roads, 344-1738; Lois Parenti-Beach, Park and Hall rental, 385-3140; and Diane Valentine- Building, Zoning and Permits, 385- 4903. The Health and Welfare department is shared by all, so you can give any one of these trustees a call to help you. TTV INTERFERENCE Complaints have come in from several residents about interference on their antenna television. This problem apparently does not affect cable TV. It is very annoying to these people since they cannot enjoy wat ching their favorite programs or even the news. It has been happening at all different hours and is very distressing to these residents. If you are experiencing these dif ficulties, Eve O'Halleran asks that you please call her at 385-3452, as she is compiling a list to take further steps. Let's hope that this problem can be remedied soon for all your sakes.
