Sale HelPs Area Rescue s<iuad | For the benefit of the McHenry Area a Rescue Squad, the Lakeland Park T Women's club is sponsoring a Flea Market, Mini Bake Sale, and Craft Sale, at the Lakeland Park Com­ munity House, 1717 N. Sunset avenue, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25. Non-club members can rent tables, at a nominal cost, to sell their own items.. Contact Mrs. M. Cross, Oak drive, McHenry, as soon as possible, regarding table rentals. There will be bargains of all kinds ; and as an added convenience, coffee and doughnuts will be available at reasonable prices. ; ~ / This is a chance to secure some very good buys, while helping the Lakeland Park Women's Club's civic project. A good attendance by the community people will help to make this event a successful venture to show ap­ preciation for the service the rescue squad extends to local residents. County Christian Women's Club Holds Country Bazaar Luncheon On August 10, the McHenry County 'Christian Women's club will hold a "Country Bazaar" luncheon from 12 to 2 p.m., at TC Spirit's restaurant, 6305 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake. The featured event will be a "Country Bazaar" including hand­ made craft items, baked goods and fresh garden produce. Special music will be presented by Kristin Lackore, a soprano from Crystal Lake. She is a graduate of DePaul University School of Music, With a degree in piano performance. The inspirational speaker will be Pat Gunter from Plainfield, 111. The mother of six children, Ms. Gunter is interested in gardening. Reservations are essential by noon, Aug. 8, and may be made by calling Charlotte at 455-6642. A free nursery is provided for those with a reservation, and all interested women are invited. Three County & One City Home Featured At Hospitality Day MRS. GARY BESSERUD The former Barbara P. Newcomb and Gary B. Besserud were married Saturday, July 30, in the First Methodist church, Whitewater, Wis. The bride wore an heirloom lace veil, which had been worn by her grandmother in 1922 and her mother in 1949. She is the daughter of Professor and Mrs. Eldon H. Newcomb, 3108 Creek View drive, Middleton, Wis., and he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Besserud, McHenry. The newlyweds will live at Route 2, Bluff road , Whitewater. The new Mrs. Besserud is a Business Administration student at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater and her husband is the owner of Nordic Plumbing and Heating Co. in Whitewater. This year the annual Holiday Hospitality Day will be held Wed­ nesday, Oct. 5, at the fairgrounds in Woodstock. Plans for this annual fund raiser, sponsored by the Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital for McHenry County are well underway. Co-chairmen Mary Hill and Mary Clausen have announced four homes will be open this year for the house tour. Three homes are featured in the country and one in the city of Wood- Girl Foresters Host Pool Party The McHenry National Catholic Society of Foresters, Junior Girls' * Court No. 659, will host a pool party Sunday, Aug. 14, at 8 p.m., at the Knox Park pool. Houses on the tour include the Kramer home, featuring an interior atrium; theStinespring home with an indoor swimming pool; the unique Sobol solar home; and the early 1900s Pope home with antiques and collectibles. Buildings at the fairgrounds will offer the visitor handmade items from the Christmas House, Busy Needles, Coners, Weeders, and miniatures. Of special interest, too, is the Farmer's Market, Bake Sale, and coffee corner. Handmade soap and the "Hospitality Heritage" cookbook will also be sold. The day begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. at the fairgrounds and 5 p.m. on the house tour. As an added incentive, the Gift & Thrift shop on Benton street, off the square, is offering a discount on all new merchandise on Hospitality Day to all ticket holders. Don Peasley Photo Prepare For Fish Boil | On Friday, Aug. 5, at Pearl Street park, Pioneer Center For The Ex­ ceptional brings its Fish Boil to McHenry. This year, due to popular demand, two Fish Boils are scheduled for McHenry residents - one this Friday, Aug. 5, and another Aug. 19. All the dinners planned are fund raisers for the center, which serves the developmentally and mentally disabled of McHenry county. Fish Boil serving hours are from 5 to 8:30 p.m. for the outdoor feast of haddock, potatoes and onions floating in hot melted butter. Coleslaw, homemade bread, pie and a beverage are included in the dinner. Guests at the McHenry County Association for the Retarded's event enjoy the ex­ citement and pageantry of the giant caldron "boilover" before each serving. Advance tickets for the dinners are sold at all Pioneer Center facilities. Arrangements for tickets can be made by calling the center or stopping in at the Chamber of Commerce of­ fice. Those in­ terested are urged to attend this event at the McHenry Country Club t he group is entering its second year as a helping hand to many of McHenry s civic organizations. During Fiesta Days they aided the Parks and Recreation department, staffing the seven-mile run; judging !he pet show; and assisting with the popular Big Wheel Race. The Cutest Baby contest is their own money raiser during Fiesta Days and funds collected go to help serve other civic needs. In an effort to reach all age groups, they have donated time at the McHenry Public Library, assisting Mrs. Rogers, the children's librarian, with story hours, and contributed puzzles for the children; held a dinner for patients at the local nursing home; gave donations to aid in the purchase of park equipment and equipment for the hospital's Pediatrics ward; contributed to area rescue squads; and needy families, through FISH. Now they are searching for thusiastic, energetic women to helji get on with the job of bettering community. However, the group i»npt "all work". They enjoy each other>| company and have several luncheons] and dinners throughout the year.
