The county's 4-H members will vote for 4-H King and Queen, and the winners will be crowned on 4-H Night at the McHenry County Fair on Thursday evening, Aug. 4. The candidates are Lee Tomlinson, 18, McHenry; Marilyn Stanonik. 16, Woodstock; Donna Fleming, 16, Marengo; Gina Roppart, 18, Harvard; Betsy Payne. 17, Woodstock; and, Ann Perry. 17, Harvard. The candidates prepared this background information on their 4-H careers and aspirations: Gina Boppart. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Boppart, Harvard, is a member of the Hartland Homemakers Club. 4-H pro jects she is enrolled in include clothing, foods and arts and crafts. "I have been involved in 441 for the past ten years and have found it very rewar ding hccause of the many activities I have participated in. I belong to the Hartland Homemakers Club and have held almost* every office and chaired many commit tees. My projects mainly include foods, clothing, crafts and photography," Gina said. "The most rewarding experiences I have had in 4-H include winning at state fair, going to 4-H banquets, being a junior leader and probably most of all, being a counselor at Camp Shaw for the past two years. 4-H has made available many op tions in my life and influenced my future plans to major in the clothing area at Pur due. Through 4-H I have been able to meet new people, set and work towards goals and develop a sense of self through all that 4-H has to offer," she added. Betsy Payne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Payne, Woodstock, is a member of the Hartland Homemakers Club. 4-H pro jects she is enrolled in include clothing, foods, and automobiles. "When I was eight-years-old and just starting 4-H, all I could think of was how much fun it would be -- maybe I would even learn something. Now that I am in my tenth year of 4-H, I realize just how im portant 4-H has been to me. Participation in public speaking and demonstration con tests when I was young helped me tremen dously. Now when I address large au diences, I am at ease and feel quite com fortable," Betsy said. Ann Perry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Perry, Harvard, is a member of the Dunham "B" Sharps Club. 4-H projects she is enrolled in include her major project of clothing. ' "I have been in 4-H for nine years. My projects over the years have included foods, clothing, arts and crafts and livestock. The most rewarding for me is showing a livestock project because I feel proud to show them at the fair knowing all of the work I've put into raising them," Ann said. "4-H has taught me to get involved and have fun doing whatever I'm involved in. Through 4-H I have met many people and made many friends, and I can honestly say it has been the most worthwhile part of my life. I have reached many goals in 4-H that can only help me in the future and later, when asked what I miss most in life, 1 will answer ... 4-H," she added. Lee Tomlinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tomlinson, McHenry, is a member of the Busy Three 4-H Club. 4-H projects she is enrolled in include clothing, home furnishing and arts and crafts. "Nine years of membership has provid ed me with worthwhile adventures while learning skills necessary to complete some 80 projects including sheep, interior design, gardening and a variety of arts and crafts. I have grown socially and emo tionally while meeting members and form ing lasting friendships," Lee said. Marilyn Stanonik, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stanonik, Woodstock, is a member of the Hartland Homemakers Club. 4-H projects she is enrolled in include clothing, veterinary science, foods and arts and crafts. "Being a 4-H member for the last seven years has meant more than just an activity to fill up free time. Donna Fleming, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Fleming, Marengo, is a member of the South Dunham Community Club. 4-H projects she is enrolled in include photography, foods and arts and crafts. "I have learned a lot in the eight years I have been in 4-H. 4-H has taught me how to set goals and accomplish them. It's show ed me how I can better my life by helping others and the joy and pride that comes out of it. Through 4-H I have also discovered the career I plan to go into, and 4-H is help ing me to reach the success of my dream."
