IVACib: I - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY. AUGUST 3.1163 "EARL WALSH"" So I Hear A reader asked me to repeat what I wrote about coal mining. I don't remember exactly. It was something about coal mining being dangerous and dirty, but not as dirty as undermining. Is that close enough? If not, let's be sure of the un dermining source. We can be led down the wrong path. So ends the mining. Believe it or not Mr. Ripley. Eddie Bimbo turned the dials on his TV to give us the White Sox game. That's hospitality. Jerry Wakitsch agrees with me that salad dishes should have sideboards. It was what might be called a slight emergency last Thursday when we made an appointment to see a doctor at 3 P.M. We sat down in the waiting room and {ricked up a magazine of last January. After reading a while, I got up and tQpk a drink of water. Sat down and read some more. Took a nap. Moved to a cooler spot. Listened for my name to be called. Got another drink. Stretched. After waiting an hour and five minutes, I was startled to hear my name called. Never met the doctor before so as an opener said, "You must be having a busy day". "Oh, not so bad," says he. The local genealogical research group is a busy organization. They do a lot of work and enjoy their efforts. Mentioning that I have an original McHenry County History Book of 1885 brought attention. The research group has orders for 90 books and the least they can order is 200. With a wealth of information in the old book, it is treasured in our home. I'm not selling books, but feel sure you would also treasure this in teresting and fascinating old book in your home. A? They have order forms at the McHenry Library. For details, you can call Judy Robel at 385-8791 or Phyllis Bauer at 385-9626. The Herman Zwisslers seem to choose the same eating spots on the same nights we do. It gives us all a smile. They are friendly people to meet and greet. Talk about looking ahead. One place of business has a bag of salt near the doorway. Sidewalks aren't very slippery just now, but one never knows when a cold spell will creep up on us. There must be a lot of worn out people after the lengthy Fiesta whirl. A letdown is in order for everybody who took part in making tlte big event a success. Chamber of Commerce members led the way. Police and city workers did a bang-up job. Maybe the press should also share jn the success. It was a struggle to drive north on' Riverside Drive after the parade. A jolly crowed swarmed over the street. There must have been a million paper cups tossed around. Empty cups. At least we didn't have to drive around through Johnsburg this year to get to our home on North Green St. _ ^ It was nice to see Dave and Miriam Kerr. They drove back to the old home town from deep in the heart of Texas. Just as I plan ftaeh yonr In Ho many things right aftor the first of the year, I now have great plans for when the weather cools off.
