M * V \ » i Page 36--Shaw/Free Press Media Group, Inc. 1983 Fair Guide Contests & competitors You're never too old for a horse show By Angela Burden Shaw/Free Press Media WOODSTOCK -- Jan Thiede is too old at age 25 to be a 4-H member, but she still participates throughout the year in the 4-H horse program and the annual McHenry County Fair 4-H horse show. She's a member of the 4-H County Horse Committee, which is comprised of in­ terested volunteers who run the program and horse show. According to Thiede, more than 100 peo­ ple between the ages of eight and 19 years are signed up for the horse show this year. "Because of the large number of entries and classes, this year's 4-H horse show will be held for two days at the fair. Wecan'tfit everything into a one-day event," Thiede says. Classes in the show include showman­ ship, horsemanship, equitation--when the rider is judged and not the horse--gaming events such as barrel races and timed ac­ tivities and novice classes for lighter competition. The 4-H Horse Show will be held Wednes- program must, by Feb. 1, turn in a "green sheet" which includes a picture of their horse, its name and its age. The sheet then proves that members are participating in the project well in advance of the horse show.
