Skinner's Amusements have been a part of the fair for about ten years, according to Pat Skinner. This year a new ride, the "Spectacular Hurricane" will accompany the old favorites, such as the "Zipper," "Tilta-whirl," "Spider," "Round-up," bumper cars and merry-go-round. "We try to have a new piece of equip ment every year to add to our rides," Pat Skinner remarked. The operation is still ia "family-oriented business" according to Pat Skinner. "We're a tradition in McHenry County," Skinner said. "When anyone in the area thinks of carnivals, they think of us." The rides and booths take about a day to set up, according to Skinner, not including the time spent to plan the electrical system for the location and the layout. The dismantling procedure requires about the same amount of time. Eight tractors are required to transport the "rolling stock," and drivers will take the machines to the next carnival or fair loca tion while the rides are still in the process of being dismantled. "After we've moved out, the area is left so clean, no one would even know that we'd even been in town." Skinner said. "We leave it in lop shape." Skinner's Amusements will operate dur ing the entire duration of the fair, Aug. 3-7, before moving on to other county fairs in the state.
