"It's fun," said Deborah, Scott, 12, a second-year member of the Busy Bears 4-H Club in McHairy. Deborah's mother, Peggy Boggs, super vised the project, which includes studying the four basic foottgroups, cooking and ex ercising. The ,one-year project attracted few participants in its first year -- Peggy was the only one in her dub -- but Boggs said she expects participation wffl in crease after children see tow others en joyed it this year. "Fitting It All Together" may be ex panded to become a multi-year, project, but meanwhile, students can take other food projects which relate to this new one. Taking a practical look ai nutrition and health, the workbook offers recipes for such tasty foods as "orange smoothies," which are orange juice milkshakes. It also provides a chapter on pricing food, in cluding the importance of looking at unit pricing. Children are encouraged to read labels, and Scott said die and Deborah pick up pamphlets from the grocery store and watch for magazine articles on nutrition. The workbook provides information on adjusting one's diet according to the level of activity, which may prove useful for the busy 4-Hers who scamper at the end of the summer to finish up their many projects for the McHenry County Fair. , Theresa Smith, a member of the Uncoln Cloverleafs 4-H Qub, learned how to make quick an{ healthful snacks, like mini- pizzas and tuna melts, with her project supervisor, her mother, Jean. Mrs. Smith and the four participants in "Fitting It All Together" exorcised to Jane Fonda's workout record in the family liv ing room and toured Nature's Cornucopia, their local health food store, at two of their meetings. "I've learned from the project, too," Mrs. Smith said, The workout points out, for instance, that an over-weight child has a greater chance of being an overweight adult than a child who is not overweight. She added that she enjoys the children's enthusiasm when they learn foods that are good for them can also taste good. mow important gas furnace breakthrough in over 40 veers.
