The museum is considered out standing for its type with a music room, an old-fashioned school room, an early dental office, uniforms from this country's wars,' and early farm machinery. There is also the last free-standing log cabin of the county, built more than 100 years ago. It is furnished with items from the period in which it was used. A trip to the McHenry County Historical Museum in Union is definitely a worthwhile trip any time, but it will be especially interesting Aug. 28 for all of us. NATIVITY NEWS Nativity's church picnic is being planned for Sunday, Aug. 21, following the 10:30 a.m. worship service which will be held on the Manke farm. For any further details or for directions, call Pastor Olson. The first regular session of Sunday school for 1983-84 will be Sept. 11 and will include some special Rally day events. In order to prepare for "The Essence of Christmas", the fall series of craft workshops will begin Wed nesday, Sept. 7, through Nov. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the church basement. All materials will be provided so all that is needed are helping hands! Crafts to Slate Youth Fishing Derby The Wonder Lake Lion's club is sponsoring a fishing derby for youth up to the age of 16 years old. It will run for a period of one month, starting Aug. 15 and concluding Sept. 15. Fish that will be included in the competition are: large bass, krappie, blue gill, northern pike, cat fish, and perch. A trophy will be given for the largest fish, along with other prizes. In order to enter the derby, you must bring your catch to the Mathews' building and ask for Terry, who will register your fish and take a picture of it. No fish stories about the one that got away will be accepted! WONDER LAKfi DAY AT MUSEUM Sunday, Aug. 28. will be a very special day for all Wonder Lake residents and those interested in the history of Wonder Lake. This will be a day set aside by the McHenry County Historical Society to pay special in terest to our community, past and present. The hours are from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. with the Reverend Richard Wright, a long time pastor at Wonder Lake, presenting a brief history at the beginning of the program. If you have any items concerning the history of Wonder Lake, they may be brought to the museum for display.
