Charges made, countered on landfill site by Ken Wysocky Charging that Waste Management, Inc., is hiding specific information, McHenry County Improvement Association (MCIA) attorney William Franz said the sanitary landfill site application accepted by the county Tuesday is still incomplete. "The additional information included this time improves the application, but does not cure it of all the defects," Franz said. "Nothing we see in it allays our fears." But A1 Stob, landfill development director for the Oak Brook-based waste firm, said the application is complete. "Is the MCIA the judpe or is the state's attorney the judge?" Stob asked. "If the state's attorney is satisfied it is complete, then I would say it is, too. The MCIA doesn't represent the county anymore than anyone else-it's a county ordinance, not an MCIA ordinance." Waste Management has applied for approval of a 118- acre sanitary landfill site on the southeast corner of the intersection of Route 176 and McCue 'Road in southeast Seneca Township. The application was submitted Monday to the state's attorney's office and declared complete the following day. That set in motion the 120-day deadline for the McHenry County Board to decide on whether or not it should approve or reject the application. Franz said the plans submitted in the application do not show how Waste Management plans on designing and installing a safe landfill. "The application is more an attempt to conceal than an intention to reveal," Franz said. "It is an attempt to make the landfill appear innocuous, but it is an intense, dangerous and brutal attack on the surrounding land. It will cast a pall on the homes and farms, and on the traffic passing by it. It will change the entire area forever. While Franz said Wast Management several Waste does operate landfills correctly, those operations are an attempt to "propagandize the gullible." With the filing of a petition, the county has 60 days to set up a public hearing, and 120 days to approve or deny the petition. If no decision is reached within 120 days, the petition is considered approved. Anyone who would like to comment on the proposed landfill site must submit written comments to the county board no later than 30 days from the petition filing date. 'Harvey' visits medical symposium Memorial Hospital for McHenry COunty recently held its seventeenth Annual Medical Symposium to provide continuing education for area sicians. of the speakers was Dr. Robert Harner, cardiologist with Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, who lectured on heart murmurs. A unique and interesting part of his lecture was the teaching tool used to assist physicians in diagnosing heart problems - a mannequin named "Harvey." "Harvey" is sophisticated ^gpehing tool that has 20 cardiovascular diseases into its computer, igh the use of stethoscopes and touch, physicians and nurses are able to correctly assess and diagnose problems. "Harvey" was developed in Protor Harvey, of Georgetown University. There are only 22 "Harveys" in the world - each hand made individually - costing over $100,000 each.
