In more ways than one, the Skyhawks are enjoying the fruits of that weight training this season. Along with the team success, directly contributed from the weight training, comes individual success. One of those individuals on the Johnsburg squad that is enjoying success is halfback Jim Hopp. In the first three games of the season, the senior back has already passed the total yardage of his junior season. Hopp has rushed for 385 yards, 85 yards more than last season. Hopp credits his success to the weight lifting program that has strengthened the entire team, especially the offensive line. Warriors win FVC match The McHenry Warrior volleyball team won its first Fox Valley Conference match, by defeating Crytal Lake South last week Thursday 11-15, 15-9 and 15-13. The Warriors jumped off to a 9-2 lead in the second game and breezed in to tie the match at one game a piece. In the second game, the Warriors had to come from behind, 13-10, and tie at 13- 13. top varsity drew much his coach, That was his performance. It praise from Oberembt. "Jim has done an excellent job," said Oberembt. "He has trained hard during the off season. In his way, he has proven to his team he can play. "But he also has respect for the other people on the team. He realizes its a team game. He doesn't make a big thing out of individual statistics." Hopp teams up with fullback Jim Bentz in the backfield, who has enjoyed a. great amount of success also. Bentz has rushed for 386 yards in the first three games. Oberembt says the backfield pair has "been a super one-two punch." At the present, Hopp said he iust wants to concentrate on his last season of hieh JOHNSBURG continued from page 24 a handfull of games, JHS is off to its best start in several seasons. "We have heavy senior leadership. We can count on a number of people to do the job when we really need it," Oberembt said in reference to his team's success. "And our juniors have done an excellent job. We start two juniors and one sophomore on the offensive line " He added that much credit for the Skyhawks' fast start has been "our ability to have most players go one way. We've been able to limit the two-way play (playing offense and defense) of most players." The Skyhawks' offense has been nothing to laugh at, either, as senior running back Jim Bentz has rushed for 386 yards in Johnsburg's first three games. Senior quarterback Jeff Jayko has also keyed the team's success. "We're real pleased to be where we are," Oberembt continued. "We have a very dedicated, conscientious group of players. The offensive of Mo Dreyer, Phil Thennes, Tom Kinney, Brian Siudak and Bob Bentz has been outstanding." But there's no getting away from the Hurricanes' potent offensive attack and their defense which has held opponents scoreless through 12 quarters.
