APPRECIATION A nouse warming and appreciation party was held at the home of Janet (Bauer) and Shane Halligan Sunday, Sept. 25. IMs was to be an outside party but the weather man wasn't completely cooperative. There were some 80 friends and relatives who collected at the new Halligan home on Ringwood Road, to stand back and enjoy the product of love and labor in helping Janet and Shane prepare this new home. . Cards and visiting were eqjoyed by all and after the rain some horsehoes were thrown by the men. Delicious food was served to all and a lot of credit for the food preparation goes to Jane'ts mom, Georgia Bauer. 4-H MEETS The Busy Three 4-H Club recently held its organizational meeting. Membership cards were distributed and explanations of projects and activities were given. Many of the members took outstanding honors at the McHenry County Fair in August. Mention was made concerning awards presented, to Phillip Wolff, Margaret Reiland, Philip Gust, Laurie Wolff. Rusty Crowsell, Tiffany Letezia, Terri Steinmetz and l*+ Tomlinson. Steinmetz hom^l Handwork/ classes In "Counted Cites Stitch" started Sept. 17. Laurie Wolff, Mandi Lieberman and Terri Steinmetz meet each Saturday at the Tomlinson home to work on their project. * The next regular meeting will be held Oct. 10 at the Ringwood School at 7:80. Members wffl select their projects for the 1988- 84 club year and election of officers will be held. CONDOLENCES | Hie community was saddened to learn of the Ben Jacobs, Sr. last morning. Following the visitation, everyone went to a restaurant for pizza. In honor of National 4-H Week, Oct. 2-8, the club is planning a window display on Riverside Drive in McHenry. They are also making arrangements to hold a mini-fair for the residents of the Royal Terrace Nursing Home. The window display committee meets at the BIRTHDAYS "Happy Birthday" to Anna Shadle way out there in California (94 this year) on Oct. 4; and to Make Weiser, Sandy Bauer Huff, Rhonda Ackerman and Matthew Gorski Oct. 5. Oct. 6 finds Rienhold Hohmann adding another candle to his cake; as Linda Brennan and A1 Meechum, Jr. will do Oct 7. Oct. 8 finds Chad Adams and Cathreen Tonvan celebrating their special day. Sunday, Oct. 9, Christopher Hopp, Lois Jacobs, Judy Winston, and John Winston will be celebrating their special day; with Tina Betts doing the same Oct 10, way down Arkansas way. We wish all of you wonderful people a very happy day and many more to come. ANNIVERSARIES "Happy Anniversary" goes to Larry and Noreen (Bauer) Schmitt Oct. 5; and Oct. 7, Noreen's parents, Georgia and Rog Bauer will be celebrating another year of wedded bliss, (how many now, kids?). Oct. 9 finds two couples celebrating on the same day, they are Wanda and John Bistlofo and Walt and Alice Mae Wilcox. We wish all couples a very happy day and many more years of togetherness. GOD BLESS • * • m -meet your^^^ neighbors C5 N Couple dies in crashK ̂ A Huntley couple was killed in a head-on collision in Fnpn fast weekend, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Department. 9 Wendell E. Calhoon, 48, and Diane E. Calhoon, 45, both of 10713 Woodstock St., Huntley were killed when their vehicle collided with one driven by Samuel I. Finley, 38,766 Oak St., Elgin. According to the sheriff's department, the Calhoons were northbound on Nestler Road, north of Water Street, in Elgin about 7:30 p.m. Saturday when crested a hill and braked skidded into Finley's car. According to reports, Finley was traveling in the wrong lane at the time of the accident. Officers said Finley's car was facing southbound in the northbound lane when they arrived at the scene. Finley was charged with DUI and improper lane usage. The Calhoons and Finley woe transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Finely was reported in fair condition with a broken lee. Diane Calhoon was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and her husband reportedly died in the emergency room. Urge recycling of junk Wonder Lake: SEARCH FOR YOUR OLD BOWUNG BALL Get those bowling balls out of the closet and be ready to show off your bowling form on Oct. 8 when the Co. 1 Firemen's Auxiliary will be having its annual candlelight bowl at the McHenry Recreation. The tickets per couple include three games, prizes, and a buffet. Bowling will begin at 9 p.m. and tickets may be obtained any auxiliary member or Mrs. Rick Celenza and wishes are sent for years of smooth sailing together. Anne Sowers 653-9549 Lake left the dock on Lake Geneva as Miss Bunny Berndt and returned to the shoreline as Mrs. Rick Celenza. Bunny and Rick were united in marriage aboard one of the Lake Geneva Cruise boats in the presence of family and friends Sunday, Sept. 18. During the two-hour cruise, the anchor was dropped and the ceremony took place. The cruise then resumed while champagne was served to all aboard. Congratulations to Mr. and CRIBBAQE Sunday, Oct. 23, The Wonder T-nkp versus McHenry County Cribbage Tournament will be held at noon in the American on Post Home, Wonder i. The event is open to all men and women and registrations will be taken until Oct 16 at the post home. The public is invited. WOMAN'S CLUB The Woman's Club of Wonder Lake Friendship Jjea was held Sept 15 to kick offthe new club year. About 40 women were in attendance beii the "Sweet Adelines". Lorraine Henelv, the new club president, was pleased with the enthusiam shown for the new year by the nice size group that came for the tea. All meetings are held the third Thursday of the month in the Nativity Lutheran Church hall beginning at 8 p.m. Members are always eager to welcome wests to their meetings. And then, the next day, Oct. 2, their son Ray will be celebrating his welcome new residents into their area. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Krich have recently become Wonder Lakers and say they like Wonder Lake very much. They are amazed at how quiet it is after coming from an apartment which was situated across the from train tracks! This week, Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Johnsburg Cub Scout Pack No. 454 will co-sponsor the drive and share in the proceeds. The drive is still being held in its temporary location, McHenry High School West Campus lot, 4724 West Crystal In addition, to newspapers, glass, aluminum scrap, "tin" cans, and used motor oil, the Defenders will now accept brown paper bags and cardboard tied in easy to handle bundles. Another Defender-sponsored recycling effort on the second Thursday of each month (Oct. 13), from 9 a.m. to noon, is held in the rear parking lot of McHenry FS (4004 W. Walkers ask freeze pledges The 12th Congressional District Nuclear Weapons Freeze campaign is holding a Walk-a-Thon in Woodstock Saturday, Oct. 1. The goal of the Nuclear Weapons Freeze is a mutual and verifiable nuclear arms freeze by the United States and the USSR as a first step toward nuclear arms reductions. Walks are being held nationwide Oct. 1st to raise money for local and national efforts of the Freeze to educate the public about arms race and what can be done about it. Walkers in will gather at the Wc City Square at 9 a.m. for a rally and the walk, which will begin at 10 a.m. Walkers will cover a 10- kilometer (6.2 mile) route and collect pledges from sponsors for each kilometer walked.
