BELL Harvard professor men's day speaker teaching in th< history department at Harvard, he al« Men's Day at McHenry County College will offer county - residents the opportunity to meet Donald H. Bell, assistant professor of history a t H a r v a r d University and author of the book Being A Man:The P a r a d o x O f Masculinity, who is t h e f e a t u r e d ter Saturday, 15. Bell will discuss the roles that men find themselves in as rapid change in our society has forced them to re­ examine assumptions related to such issues as work and career, male female relationships and parenting. ~ Bell is a specialist in social and economic history, especial ly the history of the family, labor and the working class. From his studies of the family BeU developed an interest in the evolution of sex roles ' in industrial society. His book studies alterations in the contemporary male role. Bell currently is c o - e d i t i n g a collect ion of writings on American labor history. He has published a number of articles dealing with the historical evolution of sex roles and labor history. Before Harvard, Bell taught at MIT and Smith College. In addition to the J, t e a c h e s i n conjunction with Harvard's department of social studies and the committee on women's studies. Men's Day is an opportunity for examination, discussion and evaluation of issues facing men today. From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, participants will share ideas and hear professionals as well as peers discuss the stresses men face and how to cope with them. A variety of seminars will be offered following Bell 's address. There will be time t o b e c o m e acquainted with the College, its . and services, to meet College and other men . of the area. Both men and w o m e n a r e encouraged to attend Men's Day. To register come t o M C C ' s registration office Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. On Friday the office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. * Special arrangements have also been made for registrations be accepted for Men's Day by calling the college at 455-3700 and a s k i n g f o r registration.
