Lincoln Road, McHenry, has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. San Diego. During the 11-week training cycle, he learned the basics of battlefield survival. He participated in an active physical conditioning program and gained proficiency In a variety of military skills, in­ cluding first aid, 9 rifle marksmanship and dose order drill. Teamwork and self- discipline were emphasized throughout the training cycle. In an effort to provide needed dental services to the homebound, elderly and physically and mentally handicapped, the Illinois State Dental Society has initiated a portable dental equipment program, which will be implemented in early November. This program is designed to help reach the five or six percent of the population who do not have ready access to a dental office because they are in a nursing home or restricted to the confines of their own homes. Under the program, a licensed dentist will be able to transport it in his own vehicle to perform comprehensive dental care to those persons wtoo do not have access to a dental office. Those dental societies which have chosen to participate in the program have assigned an Individual dentist to be responsible for the program within their particular geographic area. This person will oversee the scheduling of the equipment and will work closely with community organizations to coordinate its use. Dental care will be provided directly by individual dentists to patients as the patient ana dentist may determine. Charges for services will be at the discretion of the •ffawwting dentist. The portable dental equipment program is Just one part of the Illinois State Dental Society's ongoing access program whose purpose and concern is to provide dental care to needy citizens of Illinois. The Illinois State Dental Society TOTAL-DENT referral program currently in existence enables tow-income citizens to receive-dental care at a reduced fee. To be eligible, one's income must be |7,000 or less, if single; $10,000 or less if married; not eligible for public aid or dental insurance.
