SKt THWy 2 • FACSE 2 - I'LAINDEALEIt - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11.1983 ̂PSfollowing the .̂ Church New members to join Shepherd of Hills ; New members were Choir to appear at Wonder Lake church The Wonder Lake Bible Church invites the general public to attend a concert by the / 45-voiCejnixed choir from New ^Tribes Bible Institute in Waukesha, WI, Sunday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. New Tribes Bible Institute was established in the early 1960's by the New Tribes Mission Board to train prospective missionaries in Bible Md mission-related subjects. There are two campuses. Besides the one in Waukesha, there is also a campus in Jackson, MI, and several boot camps in the northern climates and the southern climate states. Following two years of in tensive Bible training, those who feel called to the mission field attend a boot camp for several months as they learn how to live in the various climates where they may be called to serve. The training gets down to the nitty- gritty of daily living without modern conveniences. New Tribes Mission was founded in 1942 and now has 1,800 missionaries in 18 count ries bringing the Gospel message to tribes that have never seen a white person or heard of Christianity. There is no charge for the concert: however, a free-will offering will be received. During the Sunday morning worship services, Pastor Merle D. Conklin will continue with the tenth in a series of messages on managing one's emotions with a message entitled "He Restoreth My Soul" based on Psalm 23. On the strictly social side of the church calendar, the Fellowship Phis group will meet Saturday at 7 p.m. at the home of Gene and Armenie Bach. Tuesday, Nov. 15, the church family will gather together in full force for the annual Harvest Home Potluck Dinner. There will be a musical presentation by the Joyful Noise. The Wonder Lake Bible Church is located at 7501 Howe Rd. at the north end of Wonder Lake. Sunday services are at 8:20 and 10:50 a.m. Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. Bus service is provided on both sides of the lake for Sunday School and nursery care is available at all Sunday services. Hie general public is always welcome at all of the services and activities of the church. For further information, call 728-0422 or 728-1687. welcomed recently by the congregation at the 10:45 a.m. worship service at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green St., McHenry. At a special point in the worship service, the new members, along with their designated current-member sponsor family, were introduced to the congregation and invited to come forward to receive a certificate of church mem bership from Pastor Roger W. Schneider. ~ Following the worship ser vice, all of the new members and their sponsors stood in a receiving line at the door of the church to be greeted by the members of the parish, after which all were guests at a new member coffee and roll reception held in their honor in the fellowship hall of the church. The reception was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kot, and Mr. and Mrs. William Teichmiller of the Evangelism Committee of Shepherd of the Hills. The sponsor families will be encouraged to keep their new families apprised of special church events throughout the year. It is hoped that the New Member Sponsor Program at Shepherd of the Hills will create an atmosphere of warmth and welcome for these new people and encourage them to become active members of the congregation. A Following are the new members and their sponsor families, received into the congregation: New members, Jeff, Mary, David and Brandon Levesque; Robert, Mary, Kristina and Michelle Madura; and Gail and Audrey Stoffel Pictured above are newest members of the congregation at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, AAcHenry, being welcomed by Pastor Roger W. when •CHECKS CASHED PAYROLL SOCIAL 5CCUFITY. Rudy Leidlg, guest minister at Unity Church of Crystal Lake, is this week embarking upon a task which should prove enlightening to all who choose to participate. These past 12 Thursday evenings, the Rev. Richard Billings, author of My Soul Remembers and of Unity Church of Oak Park, has presented an in formative class on Lessons In Truth by H. Emilie Cady. Now the Rev. ~Leidig takes the next step and shows how to nut the information contained in this course into action in everyday lives," states Dottie Thurlwell, Unity board member. The class Is at 7:30 Thursday evenings at the church, 3 Chalet Drive, Crystal Lake. Sharon, Wendy and Christopher Hanson; and Art. Carol, Kerri, Aaron and Kristin Keevil; Angela and Gina Martorano. Church sets Pony Express run Nov. 13 A "Trail Boss" breakfast and the worship service Sunday, Nov. 13, will signal the start of the fourth annual "Pony Ex press Run"at the McHenry First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Thomas E. Lowery, pastor, said he expects 37 members filling the roles of trail bosses and station agents to be on hand for the breakfast briefing. i Church families on the Pony Express Run will be relaying stewardship saddlebags to gather 1984 "estimate of giving" cards. Gerry Boehm, general manager of the stewardship campaign, will hand out the saddlebags and run route lists at the breakfast. A relay of the among church m begin immediately r the ~ sad- names of 10 . A family fills in the giving estimate cards, seal them in an envelope and inparts it in the saddlebaa poutfi and then hand-carries the naddlrhng to another of the families on the route. The teamwork is similar to that of the Pony Express riders of a century ago, knowing they can coimt on the next rider to relay the mail to its next destination. Hie competition, Mrs. Boehm said, comes in the eagerness of the trail bosses to see that their run is completed before another's is finished. Each trail boss is responsible for supervision of the relaying of one saddlebag to 10 families. The trail bosses report periodically to station agents. The run is to be completed in a week or two.
