She was born in Saukvffle, WI March 3, ISM. Surviving are two soap, the Reverend Father Etimhe J. Lutz. Pastor of th* Villa Desiderata of McHenry and Dr. Thomas .(Jan) Lutz of West (Yvonne) Barraza of California and Mrs. Robert (Mary Carol) Clarke of Grand Rapids, MI. Also surviving are 24 grand children; 10 great grandchildren; a sister Loura Bell of Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Lutz was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Lutz in 197V; a sister, Evelyn Skidd, Nov. 11, 1983; two brothers, Clifford and James; and a son James Lutz. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, McHenry. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, River Grove, IL. The familiar bank scam is in operation in the McHenry area again as a case was reported to McHenry Police on Tuesday. McHenry Police Chief George R. Pasenelli said an elderly woman received a phone call from a man purporting to be an employee of a local bank. The man said a discrepancy had been found in her account, evidence that someone at the bank had tampered with it, and asked the victim to meet him at the bank. At the bank, the woman would be instructed to withdraw her savings and hand it over to the man, ostensibly for redeposit. Instead, the woman called the McHenry Police Department The officers met the woman and bank officials, both of whom were very cooperative, Pasenelli said. The chief commented that while no money was lost in this instance, residents are urged to be wary of the bank scam and similar schemes. - The perpetrators of these scams usually target elderly people, but anyone who receives a suspicious phone call is advised to call the Police Department at 385-2131. Defenders receive state environmental award Virginia H. Chahaj, 61, of 8710 W. Sunset Drive, Wonder Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock. She was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Chicago, the daughter of Charles ana Helen Przybyszewski. Mrs. Chahaj was a line worker for Guardian Electric, Wood stock. Surviving are one son, Gregory, and two daughters. Mrs. Dale (Patricia) Behm ana Mrs. Kenneth (Judith) Urquhart, all of Wonder Lake; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald Peters and Gerald Peters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank, in 1961; and a brother Raymond: visitation was scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Freund Funeral Home, Wonder Lake, where a Wake Service was set for 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church and burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles, IL. Ken Wysocky r-Free Press News Service For their work toward McHenry County's and natural resources, the McHenry County Defenders Saturday was named as the "Environmental Organization of the Year" in Illinois by the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC). Hie IEC is a coalition of more than 50 environmental and conservation organizations throughout Illinois. The Defenders has a membership of slightly more than 400 residents from McHenry County. "Mostly, this award is a tribute to how hard our volun teers work," said Greg Lindsey, Defenders executive director. "The people in our organization spend literally thousands of hours each year working on and I think it's nice work is recognized. "This award means a lot to me partly because I've worked with the IEC in the past and have a lot of respect for that organization, and partly because this is the first year that the award has been given," Lindsey added. *• In announcing the award at the IEC's annual meeting, Ken Mitchell, the coalition's executive director, said, "Your group was an easy choice Hospital to break ground for medical arts building Nora C. The Defenders conduct are active in preservation and management of the Spring Hill Farm Fen in Lake in the Hills and the Huntley-Union-Marengo Prairie; have an active plant propagation committee; maintain an environmental library; conduct education programs; lobby on en vironmental issues; and award environmental scholarships. The present-day Defenders organization grew out of a group known as Defenders of the Fox, formed in 1970 to protest the construction of the then- proposed Fox Valley freeway.
