IWCI Schools ® Conference focus on improved teaching Marian open house set Marian Central Catholic High School invites all area eighth grade students and their parents to an open house Sunday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. at the school. Ad ministration will be on hand to answer questions and have informal conversations about the school. Refreshments will be served. Children need the best teachers they can get-but too often the best teachers are working at some other job that pays more or offers more career satisfaction than classroom teaching. Ways to attract first rate teachers into the profession and keep them in the classroom will be among the issues considered by representatives from school boards around the state Saturday, Nov. 19, in Chicago. Resolutions passed by the board members will become official policy for the Ulinos Association of School Boards (IASB), a voluntary association that advises school boards on all aspects of school governance and represents their views before the state legislature. The voting will be part of a four-day statewide conference of school officials red jointly by IASB, the ois Association of School Administrators, and the Illinois Association of School Business Officials. The resolutions on upgrading teaching as a career are the result of a study conducted by the State Board of Education and an IASB committee. They include support for the following principles: ...More rigorous standards for admission into and retention in ams progr the qui TOUR EAST CAAAPUS-Student Rob Jessup goes about his work in the drafting class at East Campus as members of the A/VcHenry Kiwanis Club look on. Education plans approved The State Board of Education's FY 1984-86 State Plan for the Education of the Handicapped Act, Part B, and the Preschool Incentive Grant plan have been approved by the united States Department of Education. The state plan for the Education of the Handicapped Act, which must be routinely submitted and approved every three years, outlines the Illinois statutes, regulations, policies and procedures that are necessary for compliance with federal laws and regulations under Public Law 94-142. The Preschool Incentive Grant describes services in Illinois provided specifically for han dicapped students, aged 3 to 5 years old. Both plans, which were ap proved after an extensive development process, a public review period and public hearings, Mil be effective through 1986 when new plans will be devised and submitted. Copies of the plans are on file at state Board offices in Springfield, 100 North First Street, and in Chicago,, 188 West Randolph.
