A large crowd filled the east campus gymnasium last Thursday evening to honor that success. Coaches, athletes and parents were at east campus for the fourth annual McHenry High School Sports Award Night. The new format honoring Warrior athletes is only in its second year. The two most successful coaches in the McHenry athletic program this fall led off the program. Both coaches led their teams to state qualification. Hutchinson led-off by honoring his four seniors, who he called the "mainstay of the team the last four years." He was referring to Steve Caitoy, Marty Koleno, Brian Wright and Delia Saunders of the girls squad. "She is the 1983 McHenry County Champion, three years all-conference and the first girl on the team for four years in a row," said Hutchinson on Saunders. "She has been the finest lady runner I have ever seen, and I have been here 25 vears." Wright and Saunders were named the most valuable runners, while Koleno was given the 100 percent award. Saunders was also named the most improved runner. Cferfry had the best time on course and Terry Harth was given the most improved runner award. His boys squad finished undefeated in the dual season, captured the McHenry County title, the Fox Valley title and qualified for the state meet, finishing Uth out of 28 teams. Cuda said there was no difference from last year's squad that took third in state and this year's squad that was eighth. The 1983 squad finished 8-2 in the dual season and third in the FVC. He reported his team had a rough time in the Barrington sectional, but beat all the teams that were beating them earlier. "I'm very proud of them," said Cuda. by Mike Lamb Sports Editor Shanahan didn't experience the success Hutchinson and Cuda did, but had a positive report. The sophomore team finished 7-4. "We're looking for those girls to help us in the future," said Gray. "We participated in three all-day Saturday Invitationals, which is kinda grueling on the girls. But at the end of the season it pays dividens." One of those invitationals were hosted by McHenry, which the Warriors won. "We had many three match losses.
