PAGE 6-PLAINDEALER -TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22. 19R3. Gift suggestions for the budget-conscious shopper Each Christmas it seems there are more toys and games from which harried shoppers may select. Here's a thoughtful variety of children's gifts, including pets, for every age group and budget. Many children have al ready made the Playmobil little people loy systems from Schaper Toys a staple play item. But now Playmo bil offers genuine "little people" -- " Playmobil Children," two-inch tall ar ticulated figures which may be used separately or with their three-inch tall "adult" counterparts. The Children are availa ble in two child-like themes, "Playground" and "Nur sery" sets, complete with all appropriate accessories, including park equipment and rides and bedroom ac cessories. As with all Play mobil characters, Playmobil Children have moveable joints for snap-on accessor ies and are constructed of bright, safe plastic for hours of realistic play. Each set is available for about $8. ...LET ED'S RENTAL HEL HOLIDAY GUESTS? This electronic space toy emits over 20 dif ferent laser-like sounds and features a realistic flip-sight cover and target. For authentic battle fun. flashing lights zero in on the bull's eye. The 12-inch long space-age toy uses one 9- volt alkaline battery, and is designed for children four and older. It sells for about $17.95. "Mini Hot Shocks" are three new, miniature souped-up hot rods from Kusan that feature fast rac ing action for children three to seven. The three models -- Road Captain, Mountain King and Rough Rambler -- have unique front swivel axles, spring-loaded rear shocks and real rubber tires which steer the vehicle right or left with a flick of the wrist. " Mini Hot Shocks" have colorful decals, use no bat teries and are available for about $7.99. Older children interested in construction sets will love "Fastech," the "Fas- tastic Building System" from Schaper Toys. All "Fastech" sets feature Fas teners and the "Fastool" which attaches or separates for each set's many building pieces. Every system contains durable, interchangeable yellow, black and red plas tic pieces so youngsters may construct a variety of vehicles with ease and speed. The new "Starter Set," for example, contains blueprint instructions for building a racing car, heli copter or airboat, among others. The '4 Wreck' N Re pa ir" Set lets kids build, destroy and rebuild their hand crafted vehicles with the aid of a high-speed, wind- up spring motor. For ad vanced, more technical construction challenges, the three other Fastech Systems are the "Techni cian," "Journeyman" and "Master." The systems range in price from about $6 for the "Starter" Set up to about $26 for the " Master" Set. This selection of new, low-priced toys can round out any shopper's Christ mas selections, and all are small enough to fit in any Christmas stocking. For toddlers 18 months and older. " Squeak ies" are two-inch high characters that combine sound and mo tion. A gentle push on the head produces a different squeak ing tone from each of the eight characters, which in cludes nurse, cowboy and construction worker.' All eight "Squeakies" are about $1.20 each. Two other inexpensive, miniature play figures for preschoolers three and up are " Astrosnik" space creatures and "Li'l Me" fashion dolls, both from Schaper Toys. A family of 30 collectible small green, smiling space characters, each Astrosnik has a com plete and imaginative histor ical background, identifica tion and personality. These little natives from Snikeria sell for about $2.50e<ich. The "Li'l Me" dolls -- Angie, Valerie and Cathy -- fulfill a little girl's desire for easily manipulated dress-up dolls. A three-year-old can easily dress and pose these specially designed fashion dolls. Each 3Vi-inch tall, three- dimensional figure comes with two soft, pliable, plas tic outfits and a posing stand for quick changing. The three "Li'l Me" sets c^t about $2.00 each, with numerous interchangeable outfits sold separately. Puzzle-players from four to 104 will be truly chal lenged by " A-Maze-Ment," a hand-held game of skill and strategy. Players try to arrange multi-colored beads in rows of the same color in side chambers of the barrel- shaped puzzle. A series of turns and rotations makes this no simple game: with over 10 billion combina tions; players will be kept busy. "A-Maze-Ment" costs about $5. Pets: the living gift For the child who seems ready, a holiday pet gift is * one that's guaranteed not to break, lose appeal or be out grown. Pets have long been known to foster healthy, positive instincts in children three years and older, so why not make this Chnist- mas the year a child re ceives a gift of life? Selecting the right type of pet requires thought and consideration. According to the Pet Information Bu reau, the most popular household pets are dogs, cats, many bird and fish species, and small, domesti cated animals, such as ham- s t e r s , g u i n e a p i g s a n d gerbils. \ &• PRE-SCHOOL playtime is an experience in sound and mo tion with the Squeakies line of characters from Schaper Toys. This Christmas, parents are sure to appreciate the affordable price, too. % lillliill Sfc - .'•x • <% m?mM s V Wwm / S:=: W&mii mmm: )\ > r Bf TORO S NO RISK PROGRAM liilf NOW ONLY!
