1 . ft Free glaucoma tests offered by Lions Nov. 28 »rA i fi'ztui1, • -i./unUb/ttbi\• r niua i, nu«.--.»»--•« One of the leading causes of blindness in Illinoia will be dealt a serious blow Monday, Nov. 28, when the Lions Mobile Screening unit comes to McHenry. Glaucoma is an eye disease whithout noticeable symptoms in its early stages, but one with inevitable progress toward blindness unless it is detected and treated in time. Glaucoma is most prevalent among adults. The tests will be given free of charge from 9 a.m. to noon in the unit, which will be parked at McHenry Market Place, West Route 120. Staffing the unit will be local Lions volunteers and medical personel to perform the actual screening Staffing is contributed by the Lions of Illinois foundation and the University of Illinois Depart ment of Ophthalmology. The McHenry Lions Club announced that screening test Legislators to attend Vietnow meeting Nov. 28 On Monday, Nov. 28' at 7:90 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rt. 47, Woodstock, Vietnow "Veterans Helping Veterans" will hold their legislative meeting which will be open to the public. Vietnow invites all Vietnam veterans and Vietnam era veterans to attend this most important meeting at which time federal and state legislators will answer some questions regarding Vietnam veterans and veterans issues and lfgfslatitm As of this time Senator Jack Schaffer, State Rep. Dick Klemm and a representative from Congressman Phillip Crane's office will be attending. Also invited but not confirmed are Sen. Charles Percy, Sen. Alan Dixon and Congressman Tom Corcoran may attend. This meeting will allow veterans the opportunity to meet and make an educated choice for the candidates in the March, 1964, elections. Vietnow also urges all McHenry County veterans to be registered to vote. In this way veterans can be a strong voting block in the community. The diabetes test, like the glaucoma, visual acuity and hypertension test, takes only a couple of minutes, but there is some food- intake preparation required for the test.
