DECEMBER 9,1983 One of Chicago* favorite holiday traditions, The Adler Planetarium's "Star of Won­ der" Sky Show, is back this year to delight " children and grownups alike as they travel back 2,000 years to search for the star of Bethlehem. 'Star of Wonder" combines the intrigue of a modern scientific detective story with the special spiritual quality which surrounds the holiday l season. i The quest to understand what } the Wise Men saw as the Christmas star begins with an attempt to pinpoint the date of Christ's birth, clues from the writings of Roman historians and from the Once the possible dates have been narrowed down, the task is to determine what the star could have been. Working frbm records of celestial events which actually occured during the period, each possibility is considered te turn and created on the dome of the Sky Theater so the audience can see it as it would have appeared to the Wise Men 2,000 years ago. Meteors, comets, novae, supernovae, and a conjunction of planets are all evaulated as the celestial event which could have been .the Star of Bethlehem. "Star of Wonder" will run through Tuesday, Jan. 3, with shows at 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 2 and 8 p.m. Fridays and at 11 a.m., 1,2,3, and 4 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Beginning Monday, Dec. 19, there will be shows daily at 1, 2, 3, and 4 p.m. and from Friday, Dec. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 1, shows will be presented at 11 a.m., 1, 2, 3, 4 p.m., with 8 p.m. shows every Friday. The Planetarium will be closed on Christmas Day. For further information call, 322- 0300. Children under 6 are not ad­ mitted to Sky Shows but are welcome to the Childrens Sky Show at 10 a.m. every Saturday and to the building and exhibits. Admission to the Planetarium building is free, but there are charges for adults, except senior citizens, to the Sky Show. The workshop, open to the public, will concentrate on tips to im­ prove people pictures, just in time for the holidays. The Production Credit Association Building is located on Route 47, south of the McHenry County Courthouse in Woodstock.
