Dec. 14 deadline for emergency corn feed PAGE • - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY. DECEMBER 14, 1 m 1 Now that McHenry County has been designated as a disaster couity, farmers are eligible to purchase lower grade Com modity Credit Corporation corn to feed their livestock or poultry. All producers who are running shortof feed are urged \p sign up at their county Agiicultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office. The signup period ends Dec. 14. According to Susan A. Maraccini, county executive director of the McHenry County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, the corn is priced at 75 percent of the 1983 basic county loan rate in the county where it is stored. Nationwide, about 27 million bushelsof U.S..No.4,U.S. No. 5, and Sample Grade corn are available from CCC. McHenry County has 295,000 bushels available. Farmers purchasing the corn are responsible for transporting it to their farms. Authorization for the CCC corn sales came with President Reagan's signature last week to a measure passed by Congress dealing primarily with the dairy and tobacco programs. Ms. Maraccini said that in addition to being located in a USDA-designated disaster county, a farmer or rancher eligible to purchase the corn must also have insufficient feed on hand to maintain foundation livestock and poultry through the end of a 90-day feeding period. The period begins wherf a producer applies for the assistance ̂ The maximum amount of corn allowed to be purchased will be 10 pounds of feed per day per animal unit times the number of days in the feeding period. general News 12 To discuss alcoholism* A meeting concerning how alcohol af-' fects the family will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19, at St. Joseph s Church, Richmond.
