Both Legionnaires and auxiliary women will unite in playing Santa Claus on Dec. 22. A Christmas program, gifts and treats will be part of the McHenry County method of saying "Merry Christmas". Approximately $4,000 will be distributed- by the West McHenry State bank this week to Christmas savings club members for the past year and this, coordinated with the ac tivities of local merchants, is expected to cause some stimulation* in business in the trading area around McHenry. Last year about $10,000 was mailed out to 250 club depositors, the decline this year being contributed to the bank moratorium earlier in the year when a number of accounts were stopped and never continued. A postage meter machine has been placed in operation at the parcel post window of the main office which enables the clerks to serve the customers much faster and saves considerable time both for the customers and postal workers. The McHenry Rotary club has again installed a ski lift at the McHenry Country club and members urge both children and grownups to ergoy the fun of a toboggan ride. With winter weather starting early this year, all indications point toward plenty of snow for a gay old time on the big hill during the holiday vacation period. Rotary members are also treating the grade school children through fifth grade who attend schools in McHenry, to a show at the local theater on Saturday of this week. There will be two shows and tickets are being distributed at the local school. 10 YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 7, 1973) Jewelry stolen from a home in the city of McHenry was recovered by members of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department, assisted by the Crystal Lake police department Valued at $23,000, the jewelry was found in a vacant lot in the Bay View Beach subdivision.
