Money derived from the sale of the stamps goes into the Salmon Fund, which is used to improve the salmonid fishery in Illinois. The 1985 contest will be held in con junction with the fifth annual Illinois Wildlife Art Show, March 17-18 in Peoria. Judging of the stamp contest will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday morning and should last about an hour, according to Tom Hecht, contest coordinator. Entries this year may portray any salmon or trout species found in Illinois, with the exception of the brook trout which is featured on the 1984 stamp. "We're very pleased to be associated with this prestigious show," Hecht said. "It will give us a chance to show off some of the excellent art we receive each year." A limited edition print of the 1984 winning artwork is now on sale through the Department of Conservation. The 500- printed edition of [Mints are signed and numbered by the artist, Chuck Mitchell. "This is a 'First State Issue"' according to Hecht, "and should become a valuable collector's item, much like the Ducl^ Stamp prints have become. The print would make an excellent Christmas present for the fisherman or anyone who enjoys wildlife art." Prints may be ordered by writing DOC in care of Salmon Stamp Print.
