Hospice fund driVe reaches half way mark The Gift of Hospice fund drive has reached the half-way mark toward its $25,000 goal, ac cording to campaign chairman Barbara Powers, Harvard. "The response from the community to this first fund raising campaign is , so gratifying that we are confident of reaching our goal before the new year begins," Mrs. Powers said. ftOBpice will provide home basCd support to people who are terminally ill with less than six months to live and to their families. ; A cadre of some 25 volunteers is intensifying its efforts to raise ' the rest of the needed money, according to the chairman. "We must meet our goal, but current contributions mean that we can hire an executive director within the next few weeks to get the Hospice support program underway," Powers said. 7--- ------ Volunteers in the campaign include Hospice members, of ficers and directors. "They are all working so very hard for this association because they want their families, their friends and their neighbors to have the option of hospice care." the chairman said. Hospice has a limited number of beautiful, commemorative art works which were donated as premiums for major con tributors. People and organizations who contribute to the association before the end of the- year become charter * members. The premiums range from author-autographed books for the $50 sponsors to an original watercolor portrait of a business donor's corporate facility for a $2,500 contribution. They include such one-of-a- kind artworks as wrought iron sculptures; porcelain bowls; f r a m e d p h o t o g r a p h s , maculature prints and serigraphs. In assessing the progress of the combined membership and fund drive, Hospice president Joan Brown, Woodstock, said that the organization has doubled its membership during the campaign. "Hospice for McHenry County now has 130 charter members," she noted. "Many of our members are helping us to target additional individuals and corporations whom they believe will want to contribute to make this important care option a reality. "We need contributions from the community now to get the work underway. Hospice must be in operation for a year before ^ it is eligible to apply to United Way and other funding sources for their support, so that kind of financial aid is at best two years down the road," Mrs. Brown said. All contributions are tax deductible. The Hospice office is located at 207 Main Street, Woodstock. For further information on the fund drive and Hospice services, call (815) 338-3783.
