r United Way campaign passes $100,000 mark 3 • I'lAINDEALKH • FRIDAY. DECEMBER It. 1M3 Pledges to the 1983-84 United Way campaign have reached $107,188, 47 percent of the $225,000 goal. . Ron Prather, Crystal Lake attorney and general campaign chairman, announced, "Our campaign appears to be making excellent progress, having achieved 47 percent of our goal during the first six weeks of the campaign. Our early results indicate that we have an ex­ cellent chance of achieving our record goal of $225,000 before the campaign officially ends on Jan. 17." Prather indicated that each campaign division is making good progress and showing results that are ahead of last year's record giving pace. 'The small business division is the first campaign unit to ex­ ceed its goal. Led toy Bill Grogg, Jr., of the* Boy Scouts, the division total now stands at $13,526 compared to a goal of $13,400. The current total for the division is 15 percent ahead of total small beusiness pledges achieved last year. Major gifts received by the small business division recently have come from throughout McHenry County. Prather reported that giving in the major employer division firms sponsoring worksite campaigns for their employees is substantially ahead of 1982's pace at this time. United Way member agencies are continuing their strong support of the United Way- Despite a doubling of lagency employee giving last year, results from those member agencies' employees whose campaigns are complete are 35 percent higher than last year. We are at the peak of the campaign now and results still to be reported from several key accounts over the next few weeks will ultimately determine if we can sustain our present pace and achieve our ambitious goal. Our goal is over $31,000 higher than last year's final results. To date, we have only achieved about one-half of the total increase in giving needed to achieve our $225,000 goal." DUI charge follows three-car collision - * * v A McHenry area man was arrested for driving under the influence and improper lane usage following a three-car collision in the 900 block of River Road early Tuesday morning. The charges came after a car driven by James A. Umbarger, III, 914 Laguna, McHenry, struck a parked car off of River Road. The parked vehicle was pushed through a gate and fence, striking a third auto. Umbarger was taken to McHenry Hospital by the McHenry Township Fire Department for examination and treat­ ment of injuries. The accident occurred at 3:05 a.m. Dec. 13. Kim Owen Truesdel, 8709 Memory Trail, Wonder Lake, was driving west on Airport Road when his car ran off the road and struck a tree. Truesdel told county police he was at­ tempting to retrieve a dropped cigarette when t the accident occurred. Michael R. Weirich, 1411 Fairview, LAND DONATION More than 6,600 acres of Fulton County land has been donated by the Consolidation Coal Company to the Nature Conservancy, a Virginia-based conservation group. Boro,„ 902 Florence, McHenry, was driving east on Elm Street when his car was involved in a collision with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle, Steven R. Land in, 1213 Eastwood, McHenry, was pulling out of a parking lot when the collision occurred. Land in was ticketed for failure to yield the right-of-way.
